Hello all, I need your help! I am thinking off being brave and checking out one of the anime generes I have never even considered before, Yaoi. Crazy I know. So why am I telling you all this, well I don't even know where to start. Sure I have come across some B/L in other series, Sailor Moon hints off it, so does Fruits basket, and even Eva does! I have watched all of these and had no problems with these potential/hinted at relationships. Well except for Eva, Shinji belongs with Askuka.
So I basically asking you for help. I want some recommondations for good Yaoi series, that well are NOT too graphic and have some what off a story. But since lists are agianst the rules, and well it's no fun just to see a title, please give me a description off what the shows about. I have done a bit off research, gone to different sites and stuff, but most only have galleries, and as nice as it is to look at pretty um...not fully clothed men, learning a bit about the anime would be awsome. Also well, I have come across other sites, that scared me. So I really don't know what to watch concerning this, also would manga be better? Thanks all, and sorry for the ultra long post. I see Wolverine Princess posting in this thread real soon. There's one called Sensitive Pornograph, I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard that it's something.

Well, since I still get a little confused about Yaoi, etc, I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I suggest:
Sukisho! anime#4633 It's has a fairly good mystery to it and the very last episode is funny as all get out. Loveless anime#4877 No sex but with a college student wanting to spoiler[be punished by a 6th grader], it's a little strange, but not bad. |

LydiaDianne, thanks for your help. Yhea I am still not to sure about all the diffenations, so that's why I used the overall term. Yaoi is apperantly really big at the convention I will be attending in August. Orginally I was just going to wait until then, but then I thought why not just check it out. Regarding your reccomendations, Sukisho sounds quite good. I think that might go on the maybe list. But Loveless, although it sounds a little cool plot wise with the mystery and all, the college student wanting to spoiler[be punished by a 6th grader]. Sort off freaks me out.
Also where do you get this stuff, do most anime stores carry it or is this a special order, internet thing? Also keep the suggestions comming. fighterholi, I looked up Sensitive Pornograph and well it sounds like it might be too much like those scary picture galleries I found. However, I am still intriqued because off the story off the people involved might be interesting. Does, anyone no just how graphic this is? Is it well basically an Henti or is it more Ettchi like? Or even something inbetween. I wouldn't mind something if it had some graphic stuff, but I dont really want it if it's nothing but Graphic stuff. So yes, as you can tell just reading the synapeses is not good enough. lt would be nice to get a fan's say on these. Especially if someone's really into Yaoi, and well knows if this would be two graphic for me. Last edited by Mistress9 on Thu Jun 29, 2006 11:03 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Sensitive Pornograph....well, if you don't want porn, don't see SP. The title has the word 'pornograph' in it, if that's any hint. However, if you do want porn, I've heard that it's pretty good. I'm not into porn, so I can't tell you myself.
Also, I suprised no one one's mention Gravitation. It's the most popular yaoi series in the US, and it's extremely good! I'd check it out! It's also a good romance in general, and it's very funny Another good series is Earthian. I've only read the manga, so I can only judge that, but if the OAV anime is as good as the manga, it will be really good! And I second Sukisho! It's very funny, and the characters are very likeable |

And here I am! Okay, by "yaoi" I'm going to assume you mean soft BL with a story and not porn, but I'll reccomend you some of both. With that said: soft BL: Gravitation is a must. It's about a wanna-be pop star and his trials and tribulations on the road to fame and in love. Currently the most popular BL anime in North America by a landslide. Very cute, but even as a fan I'll admit it's highly overrated. This is a good series to start off with if you're just getting into this genre. A word of warning: the OVA is not nearly as good as the TV series. I'l second LydiaDianne's reccomendations for Sukisho and Loveless. Loveless is an excelent mystery/fantasy-ish anime about a boy trying to uncover the secret of his brother's death. Takes place in an alternate universe populated by cat/human hybrids who lose their feline features after some sort sort of sexual intercourse. Aside from the terrible open ended "ending" (the manga is still ongoing, so I suppose they didn't want to spoil anything), it's a wonderful show if you can get over it's pedophilic central romance. Sukisho is more of a guilty pleasure than anything, though. At it's core, it's about love blossoming in all boy's high school, but towards the end of the series I guess somone thought, "Hey, maybe this thing needs a plot," and threw together together a story that is pretty much uncomprehensible for anyone who hasn't played the original BL dating simulation this anime was based on. BL anime I've yet to see but have heard many good things about: Boku no Sexual Harrasment (My Sexual Harrasment): This is porn. I'm underage and plan to abide by the "ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR CHILDREN" label on the DVD so I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard,I hope you like corn. Sensitive Pornograph: More porn. I haven't heard anything about this, other than it's supposedly good. Fangirls will say anything with boys haveing sex is good, though, so I don't know if I can trust reviews. I've seen screenshots, and the penises are actually depicted. You don't normally see that in yaoi anime, even in the really hard stuff. I don't know if BNSH has real ding-a-lings or not, but I haven't seen any screenshots containing them. Level C: I don't know anything about the "story" for this one, but the weenies are invisible. The boys are as anatomically correct as Ken dolls. Apparently there's lots of dirty pliiow talk to make up for it, though. Ai no Kusabi: Don't know what it's about (something about social hirarchy based on hair color), but almost every BL fangirl over age twenty who isn't gushing over Gravitation claims this to be the greatest anime ever made. I think it's pornographic, but I'm not sure. Zetsuai: No idea what this one's about at all. It's pretty old (1992), but I've heard it's the ultimate teen angst BL. Not pornographic. The character designs are really, REALLY ugly, though. They look like Sanami Matoh's characters crossed with spiders. Mirage of Blaze: It's got something to do with demons, I think. Not pornographic, and I think it's airing on TV somewhere. There's also an OVA. Papa to Kiss in the Dark: I've heard it's about a boy who's in love with his dad, and for that reason I'm avoiding it. I'm unsure of the porn level, but it's one of the very few anime series where the characters have nipples. (Actually, I think Ai no Kusabi has some nip-a-loos too.) There's a lot more I want to say, but I'm tired of typing so check out this webpage for a pretty-complete list of BL anime. EDIT: Changed the order of some things around and removed the spoiler tag. You can see the words through it since it's a link, so why bother? |

Most video stores sell BL, regardless of how pornographic it is, but you'll have to look in the Hentai section for the hard stuff or in the section with black cards with the Playboy Bunny logo over all the DVD covers. My Suncoast is miniscule, but they carry almost all licensed BL anime |

Wolverine Princess gave a much better description of Loveless than I did, but she is right about the central romance. And I have to second her about Mirage of Blaze. Excellent story!! Good plots dealing with a high school student coming to terms with his past, powers and possible preferences. It's my understanding that there are novels on which the anime is based. I hope that one day, they might be translated so that I can get a better understanding about the past relationships of Takuya and Naoe. |

Gravitation is a really good show, and so is Sukisho!. Sukisho! only comes subbed so it is harder to watch what is going on and read what is being said to grasp the plot. I really enjoyed it. I own Level C and it is good but there is sex in it (even though everything is washed out/invisible).
I've watched Loveless about 6 times now and although it is distrubing to see a college student with a spoiler[4th grader], the story is overall really cute, but the ending leaves much to be desired. If you ever feel the need to move from Boys Love to actual Yaoi, Sensative Pornoghraph is awesome. The first story is totally cute but the 2nd is bizarre spoiler[as if finding a man locked in a closet naked and tied up who is supposed to be a bunny rabbit] isnt something every girl would want (or guy for that matter). |

Hmm, that'd probably be worth starting a separate thread for. But if you're just after some quick names then Maria-sama ga Miteru, Simoun, Strawberry Panic and Revolutionary Girl Utena all have shoujo-ai ("light yuri") to a greater or lesser extent. I'm afraid I don't know of any pornographic yuri though - not my thing. Back on topic; as a straight guy I'm not especially into BL stuff, being so far outside the target demographic that it barely shows up on radar as it were, but I happened to watch Gravitation and... I really liked it. I took it as more of a comedy than anything else, and it worked really well like that. The characters are really funny, and the fast pace at which the show moves seems to really add some energy to it. I can't comment too much on the level of romance as I wasn't that interested in it, but it's certainly a title I'd recommend, for most people as well as yaoi fans. |

Gravitation is a really enjoyable series for anyone, I also agree, provided they aren't offended by the very obvious main pairing of two guys (there is no subtext here). I also recommend the manga, which has much better character development for the whole cast than the anime (though since they were squishing a 12 vol manga series into 13 episodes, that's not surprising), though I will warn you that the series starts to go downhill near the end (and the most recent stuff, since Maki Murakami has started writing Gravitation again, is just really horrible, from what I've heard). But it is a good series, though not a perfect one (but then again, what is really?)

FAKE is a classic. The only bit of animation is an OAV, though, which can be confusing if you haven't read the manga. It's about a pair of New York cops. One has a thing for the other. The other isn't quite sure about this. The OAV features a murder mystery with the BL scenes in-between. (The manga is much better, though.)
If you want something of a "starter" series, you might want to look into Kyo Kara Maoh. I don't like to call it BL 'cos, really, nothing happens (only thing that comes to mind is a kis, but even that was done for laughs). But the main character finds himself pulled into an alternate world and made king. He almost immediately ends up spoiler[engaged to another male through a misunderstanding]. Another character has a terrible crush on him. It's more of a parody of the genre, but it could be a good starting point. Here'sanother site you might want to look at for suggestions. |

He's not in fourth grade, he's in sixth grade. I'd think someone who's supposedly watched the series six times would know that. (I'm not counting that as a spoiler, since they say it on the back of the first manga and DVD cover.) |

Even if that's true.... I know I for one had a hard time watching Loveless; I couldn't make it past the first 2-3 episodes. That was easily one of the more disturbing relationships I've seen in an anime. I think I would have been MORE ok watching it if it actually WAS a hentai. This show taught me that sheer willpower isn't always enough to overcome innate feelings (or maybe I just didn't have ENOUGH willpower, despite how well done the show seemed to be).
