at this point it's not even news anymore.

I remember reading that Oda makes about 24 million USD a year from volume sales, royalties, etc. That's insane. He deserves it, though. He's put 10 awesome years into this series with no end in site. Three cheers for Oda and One Piece!

WHOA! Shocked Very few professional athletes anywhere in the world make that type of money.

I really wonder is One Piece one of the few manga serials that literally prop up Weekly Shounen Jump like Akira Toriyama's [u]Dragon Ball[/i] did for much of the 1980's and 1990's.

it is.
one piece is the first series since DB to INCREASE weekly jump sales.

hopefully, all the record-breaking news about the series will get american fans to check out what they're missing. as far as a fighting shonen, one piece is really the only one worth reading. it's actually tough to go back and enjoy naruto and bleach once you get into it..

Luffy looks victorious on the front cover.

I just can't get over how big one piece is in Japan!

Too bad there is no where in the world outside of Japan where Naruto or Bleach are going to sell 2+ million copies in a two weeks.

If only manga was as cheap outside Japan. Though I'm not sure about China and counterfeits or scanlations.... Laughing

You think there is enough demand for $6 manga outside of Japan such that millions of single volumes would sell in a matter of weeks?

Notwithstanding the simultaneous cheap localized releases in and outside Japan to minimize other factors as well, the world can be a large place. Heck, ya only need a tiny fraction in China alone. Laughing

Odd, really odd. If that were the case then 6 dollar and below comic books/graphic novels should be selling in the millions of copies within a few weeks but they don't.

Nope two. One country where sales figures support lower costs and another where demand is not strong enough for cheaper releases.
What country are you referring to that's gonna back-up your hypothesizing?
