At Comic-con the winners of the first annual "Yomi's" will be announced. To my knowlege this is the first manga-specific awards in the US (at least that's this large), so it'll be interesting to see how much attention they get. Here's a link to the nominees:http://community.livejournal.com/mangacast/238694.html.
The conventional choice for best publisher is Viz for the sheer amount of market dominance, not to mention many high quality titles (though for each good title they have about three mediocre ones). On the other hand, Del Rey has been the most consistant in terms of the quality they put into the product. They've got some (in my opinion) mediocre manga, but then again nearly everybody does, and unlike most companies the good titles seem to outnumber the bad ones, so I'm thinking they could take it away.
For best short, I'm rooting for Sexy Voice and Robo and I'd pick it as the favorite. Push Man got more attention from the comicbook community, but based on the judges I'd guess they go with Sevy Voice (and rightly so).
For Global manga, Tokyopop's golden child Dramacon will probobly come away with the prize. It's far ahead of Steady Beat in terms of quality, and Dokebi Bride and Japan aren't very well known. In my opinion Japan deserves the award hands down; though I'm expecting Dramacon to win, I wouldn't be suprised if Ponent Mon's anthology pulled it out based on the talent associated with the project.
Finally, best manga. Of the nominees, Monster deserves the win, and has a chance of getting it, but I'd still put my money on Death Note for the amount of press/raving fanboys it has.

Why is Galaxy Angel Party considered a short if it's more than one volume long? Even the image they used for it had the number two on it.

My thoughts (personal opinion, not predictions. I don't pay enough attention to public opinion to predict):

Best Publisher -Dark Horse
Best Short -No Comment
Best Global -No Comment
Best Manga -Monster, although Death Note is great

While I know it doesn't have a chance with the likes of Monster and Death Note, it's really nice to see NANA up for best manga. I've been surprised by just how much I enjoy that particular manga, particularly after not really liking Paradise Kiss (anime version, haven't read the manga yet).

Well for best manga I would root for Fullmetal, but probably because that is the only one I've read out of the four. But I might start reading Deathnote and change my mind looking at how many people seem to like it because it seems like I'm seeing it everywhere lol.
