Is there any type of difference between the old box set, that came in a nice blue box, and the "Bailey Box" with the Geneon Signiture Series version of the show?
The Blue Box Set is on sale for really cheap at TRSI and I was thinking of picking it up, but I know the Bailey Box is only like $40 at my local Best Buy, it's actually cheaper to order it online, but if the new releases have more content, 5.1 and other stuff, I'd rather shell out the extra $10.

Besides the packaging, there should be no difference. The "Geneon Signature Series" are simply discounted versions of the same thing. I'm assuming that Rightstuf is selling the original version at a loss in order to get rid of it is the reason it's cheaper than the "Signature Series." This was one of my first anime series that I purchased years ago for $90 and I thought that was a bargain! So just get the old box set.

Thank you. I've always thought that Geneon Signatures where the exact same thing as the original releases.
I do have a problem with the original releases though. I picked up volume 1 used the other day just to check out if the series was good, I burnt it and returned it, and I don't like how it "auto-plays". Also it does not have the option for English Language with Subs. I like watching anime like this because I tend to watch most of my anime at night and I like to get everything that is being said. I just watched the 1st episode last night and I'll be picking up this series for sure, so if there is no difference between the releases, I guess I'll pick up the older release.

I think it's only Bandai that is rereleasing some of their titles in surround sound. As for the topic I've got the signature series version and the "box" (and I use the term loosely) is really a piece of thin plastic crap. It does it's job of holding all the volumes togather but that's about it. If the first set has a better box I'd go with that.

But do the episodes begin automatically without first going to the main menu? Can you set up the "English w/ Subs" feature in the Geneon Signature versions?
Personally I don't much care for boxes since I end up removing them fom my shelf most of the time. I know the bailey boxes are crap because I have the Chobits and X series that came in those thin plastic "boxes".

I bought the Lain Signature Box Set from Bestbuy ($20 on a sale ) and yeah the one gripe I have is that there's no main menu. It automatically goes to the episodes. Since I watch all my stuff on my laptop I just have to use the media player to change it to JP/Engsubs. It's not as bad as the Mahoromatic Thinpak where the menu screen gets stuck at the language option screen though...
