The last two weeks CN has broadcast both parts of what's titled in English "The Tragic Love Song of Destiny" (eps 147-148). For those Inuyasha fans who haven't been following the CN broadcast, this is the hour-long special which recaps and fills in the gaps on Kikyo's story and her relationship with Inuyasha.
I've watched the series since the beginning and found this to be the single best "episode" in the whole series, despite the considerable use of recycled content. It does nicely fill in some previously-unexplained details (such as how Kaede lost her eye), but more importantly, it brings together in one place a story previously told only in fragments, thus allowing the viewer to appreciate the full scope of Inuyasha and Kikyo's relationship and how things came to be the way they were at the beginning of the series. It makes the seeming betrayal orchestrated by Naraku seem all the more cruel and also makes it clear why Inuyasha is never able to fully let go of Kikyo. Inuyasha has always been a "good, but not great" series for me, but this is one of the rare times it's truly impressed me. Other episodes I'd rank amongst the best include episode 98 (where Kikyo and Kagome are trapped together in a cave), episode 30 (where spoiler[Naraku tries to force Sango to kill her brother after she steals Naraku's sword, and Kagome shows her full power for the first time]), and the episode where Kagome first must come to terms with the fact that Inuyasha still loves Kikyo (#48, maybe?). Each of those episodes shows one or more of the characters at their absolute best or worst. Other thoughts? |

For what I thought of Inuyasha at that point in the series (growing weary), this episode was a welcome reminder as to what makes it such a great series to me to begin with. I don't think it quite stands up to episode 48, personally, but 147-148 is a great flashback, and easily the best episode in the last part of the anime. This episode did get me interested in the series once again, so I'm glad it came along when it did, especially to fill in some of the extra gaps and really show Kikyo and Inuyasha's relationship as the focus. Although, I fail to understand why it has its own encyclopedia entry. |

Personally, I like the most the episodes that involve Sesshoumaru, with episode 162 being my favorite. Also, while episode 48 was wonderful, I'm just not a fan of Kikyo and her personality. I've never fully understood why she did what she did and stuff.

I wish I had heard what these episodes were going to be about before-hand, I would have definately checked this out. Last time I saw Inuyasha on CN, they were re-airing that episode of the double bladed weapon.
How many more episodes until Inuyasha ends on CN? Not how long for it to go completely off the air, I'm pretty sure CN will continue airing it, but how many new episodes are left in the series? |

Just under 20 remain (19 to be exact). I really like the last set of episodes, so it's good for its remainder. |

Key, Inuyasha isn't even on Cartoon Network. It's on [adult swim] for ovious reasons.
I. Inuyasha swears in every sentence II. There's way too much romance for the Toonami audience III. The battle scenes are a bit too violent for Toonami So i would ecspect you to stop drinking sake. It's bad for you. |

I rather dispise IY now. It wasn't always this way but after coming to realize that what I liked was not what was shown anymore, I gave up trying to convince myself that it was interesting.
To someone's response of the recent IY to be filler, I ask where do you draw the line? When the manga is purposly stretching itself out to last longer (ie. make more money), it takes on the filler-type storylines. It is sad to say that I see some anime turning into american comic strips... think of IY as the "Peanuts" of Japan. Where not to say that the show is turning into a comic strip, just that it is something that is not interesting or intelligently written, and the only satisfaction I would derive from it would be throwing it in the recyle bin every sunday. I don't mean this post as a flame, just an opinion. |

"Good but not great" is a perfect way of saying it.
While the rest of the show can drag, episodes like these most recent ones, I find, are a nice reminder of why the characters do what they do; not to mention give them a bit more character depth. |

I think "Good as an introduction to anime newcomers before realizing how utterly clichéd and shallow the story is, and then significantly below average (but by no means the ‘worst ever’) after being exposed to many other time travel and 'magic rock' anime." is the perfecter way of describing it. But hey, that’s just my opinion. |

As a fan of shonen anime, I'd still say Inuyasha is above average as a shonen recommendation. It has a slow moving plot, and a lot of episodes (both of which come with the genre), but there's some real heart to it, and some exciting action scenes that do make it a good push for shonen fans, no matter if you're new or old. |

Inuyasha actually feels quite a bit less clichéd to me than a lot of other shonen romantic comedies out there. It's always had good artwork and action, great character design, and excellent music, and it does give an honest effort at character development. The basic character interactions are also a bit more complex and sophisticated than in most shonen action series. Granted, it does have its faults (and uses too much filler), but no more so than any other series of its type. One other episode that I would rate amongst the series' best: the one in the 130s (I think) where spoiler[Miroku finally confesses his feelings to Sango and clarifies the status of their relationship.] Or at least it's one of my favorites, anyway, since it was such a long time in coming. |
