Not really. About the best things it has going for it are some of the side characters and the music. The main character is unlikeable and whiny, the entire premise is rather crappy.. ; I'd avoid it.

I know a lot of people really like Please Teacher! I personally thought it was good, but nothing great. It had good themes in it, but I found the story nothing that great and the anime itself was slightly boring IMO. The romance in it is pretty strong. I personally liked Please Twins! better. The story was more interesting. The characters were a little overdramatic in it, and there was more fanservice than Please Teacher!, but overall I liked it better. I wouldn't say either of them aren't worth watching though.
Aren't all main male characters in harem anime "whiny"? Actually they do it in order to try to make the main character more relatable to young Japanese males supposidly. |

I completely agree with PantsGoblin. Please Teacher was an ok story, nothing great. I still enjoyed it, but I liked Please Twins a lot better.

And you might frown upon the theme of the student-teacher love relationship... To each his own though.

Well, i liked Please Teacher more than please twins. In Please Twins there really isn´t romance at all, it´s just some kind of comedy and i didn´t like it at all, actually i hated it. Please Teacher is quite good, but not the best in the genre...

I think Please Teacher (or Onegai Teacher) is better than Please Twins. Please Teacher had a storyline that was at least interesting whereas Please Twins was just bizarre and spent 2/3rds of the series dragging things on and on and on.... the whole spoiler["oh, we may be related, but then again, we may not be" ] just rubbed me the wrong way. Annoying characters as well.

I didn't think that please teacher was all that bad. The main character is a bit annoying (and probably one of the (physically) weakest characters I can think of that can still stand on their own... on occasion) There was a couple of episodes that I could have done without because they seemed to drag a bit.
If your looking for something with the romance/magic girl theme then try the Ah My Goddess series. If your looking for an anime with a kid with mental problems... um... well please teacher works pretty well for that. If your looking to atrophy your brain (as I was) then its worth the $15. |

It's one of my favorites. It's funny and romantic at the same time. I don't find Kei to be whiny at all, just overwhelmed at being in such an intense situation. I highly recommend it as a good regular-guy-meets-supernatural-woman story.

I think how much you enjoy Please Teacher might be related to how much anime you've seen before you watch this series. I know a lot of people who've really enjoyed it, but mostly they've watched it when they were fairly new to anime, or even just new to that kind of show. I wasn't new to anime or that particular kind of show when I watched it, and I struggled to get through the whole thing. I promptly sold it as soon as I'd finished, as I knew I'd never be inclined to watch it again. I just found it to be a cliche after cliche series full of characters who I never managed to give a damn about. It wasn't dreadful, but it wasn't good either. I just found it all pretty bland. Though if I hadn't already encountered most of the character types in PT in other shows, I know I would have enjoyed it a lot more.
For me the real test of a show with as many fantasy elements as something like Please Teacher does is how well it draws you in and makes you believe in that world. With this series I was never able to leave my skepticism on the shelf, I found the fantasy elements a little gimmicky. |

Please Teacher may be a Teacher to Student relationship but Please Twins may be considered worse if you frown upon brother to sister relationships (forgot what the word for this is and I kept saying to my friends). Anyways I haven't seen them but would like to check them out just for the sake of watching them. Just watch an episode or so and if you like it just keep watching it. If you don't like it just drop the series and move on.
Hey you should really stick to this statement when it comes to anime.........and food. "Don't knock it till you try it". "Believe it!" - IchigoK90 Last edited by IchigoK90 on Tue Jan 31, 2006 7:35 pm; edited 2 times in total |

I personally love Onegai Teacher. Excellent drama and good story. Although some of the ideas might have mirrored Ah! My Goddess, it was magnificent. (Notice the bias.)
I didn't enjoy it mainly for the fanservice and comedy, as most would. But I enjoyed it for the touching story, characters and drama. The comedy was a simple bonus to highlight the characters and plot. But this is all subjective. I also watched Onegai Twins afterwards, and found it nowhere touching the quality of its predecessor. Lots of people had given low ratings for Onegai Twins and high ratings for Onegai Teacher, and vice versa. I think one of the reasons why people have rated it this way was partly because they watched Onegai Teacher first and Onegai Twins second, thus what they expected in Onegai Twins wasn't present because the content is hardly similar to Onegai Teacher. (This is why I refer Onegai Twins as a quasi-sequel, no, more like a spin-off.) However, some who had watched Onegai Twins first, may then say that Onegai Teacher lacked the comedy and story because it was much different. Then of course, there are the individual differences of preference, i.e. comedy & fanservice VS story & drama, etc. That could very well determine how people rate and compare the two series. As far as I know and think; I'm the biggest "Please Teacher!" fan in ANN. If you want info and things related to Please Teacher!, then you must check out my website, which is now currently down (due to server hang). But I've temporarily relocated my site here: http://mizuho.atspace.com Please do visit. |
