He somehow gets the book back so yes he does gain his memories back. This is due to him being the owner of the book before.

they usually get them in early at the bookstores. They should have it by Saturday at the latest.

In Japan, there are 10 so far but not all the chapters are collected. The last chapter, 107, is going to be published in Japan next week, which would make the entire series about 12-13 volumes in the end, I think.

You mean it's almost over (in Japan)? Wow, I was expecting a long read.

Well, the last chapter just came out (still untranslated though, so I won't get to read it for a couple of days) and I have to agree, when I started reading DN I thought it was going to be longer. But there's so much story packed into each chapter, reading it has felt like the story's come just as far as another 30+ volume shonen series. Actually I really wish I started reading it earlier: I started buying the Viz graphic novels just a couple of months ago, and have been following the latest chapters for only 6-7 weeks. I became a fan just as it ended.

So DN is finally wrapping it up? I was starting to become worried that it would end up to be 40 volumes and end up being a load of junk. It's good to know manga-ka's can decide when to stop.

It will end in chapter 108. Why?
Light died in 107.
Yeah.

Oh fudge, here I go reading poilers again. I guess it wasn't that much of a surprise. What else is Light supposed to do anyway?
The reason I'm glad about DN being wrapped up is bevause I couldn't envision it being a series of more than 15 volumes in the first place, and Weekly Jump artists sometimes keep their manga going on longer than they want because it brings in cash. I think it was the author of Shaman King who did that and lost popularity at the end. The last thing I need is to have a title like Death Note drag on and eventually end up like Inu-Yasha and go in circles. I'm not really for manga that doesn't get anywhere.

I wish they could have decided to stop a year ago, though. Large parts of the story are so pointless and unmotivated that you can tell the authors were dragging it out and had no real idea of where this would lead, and no brilliant twist in mind either, alas.
What is remarkable is that although this series was originally a game of wits, in the end the players who died did not die because the other one had been so incredibly smarter, but because the loser had suddenly and inexplicably made huge stupid mistakes. You can tell the author just dropped him and wanted him dead, so the circumstances get tweaked against his favour.
It's not exactly what I would call good writing, Death Note. I'm really disappointed about the way this series took, and am glad that it is finally over and this misery has an end.

I'm glad it's over so I can start collecting it. If I don't like the way the story turns out, I can at least enjoy Takeshi Obata's art.
