Hello, I am doing a presentation in my Music of the World class on Yokko Kanno, and would apreciate any help I could get.

If any of you could recommend a slew of websites, list of albums or songs that she has composed, or general information about her, I would eternally grateful.

I had heard somewhere (don't remember where) that Yoko Kanno did the Introductory Theme to RahXephon. Any truth to this?

Yes. I was, uh, dissecting it last night. Here's a list of the other anime themes she has written.

Back when she and Sakamoto Maaya were still working together, Kanno wrote the lyrics and arranged the music, with Sakamoto doing the vocals, but that's all she did. It would've been awesome had she done the actual soundtrack, though Anime hyper. But yeah, just the musical and lyrical composition for the opening.

You can confirm it by looking on this page and scrolling to the near bottom of the Japanese production credits.

And to quote the profile page for the soundtrack from Geneon's anime music website:

Quote:
• CD includes the opening theme song produced by famed composer Yoko Kanno (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Macross Plus) and sung by Maaya Sakamoto (Wolf's Rain, Escaflowne, Cardcaptor Sakura)

Good luck on your presentation Very Happy.

Well, I am thinking of of either putting two full songs during the presentation, or six 30 second clips.

Any idea on which choice would be better?

Any songs that you ladies and gentlemen would recommend?

Well heres a suggestion on what one of the songs could be. Try using the theme Dance Of Curse from Escaflowne. That theme is a very nice piece of music that always reminds me of the series.

However I'd go with the 6, 30 second clips to show her wide range of music.

Didn't Kanno write the music? I didn't think it was an arrangement of somebody else's work...

Whoops, you're right Embarassed. I meant to say "compose" not "arrange." I had just got back from a 7 hour shift of cashiering with no lunch and a little under 5 hours of sleep. My mind slipped Anime smallmouth.

Did she do 24 Hour Open? (elevator music and machine guns.)

I think I may do 4 total songs.

I know I want to do Tank!, and I would like to add singer of different languages and genres to show her diversity.

Just a single woman named Origa. That would be a great song to have. You could also try the second opening, "Rise." The Wolf's Rain OST also has a few songs in Portugese, French, and English.

You should play a clip of DJ Jinnai's "Inner Universe" remix to show how Kanno-sempai's music had inspired the likes of techno clubs.

If you want something in a different language, I highly recommend Kanno-san's "Wanna Be An Angel" from Macross Plus, which is a very unique song sung entirely in a made-up alien language.

I do need at least 1 to be in english, since living smack dab in the center of the U.S., I need something that some of the other students can connect to, even if that happens to only be the singer singing in english (Ex: one of the other students happens to be in a lumberjack show as a lumberjack).

By the way, where can I get some of this music? I know that ITunes doesn't really do International of my tastes, or (I suppose) most people's tastes around here.
