Somebody pointed this out at another forum I post at that they can't find the Rayearth OVAs DVD at any online stores and that Manga Entertainment no longer has it listed on their site. I checked their site myself and I don't see it there either, nor can I find the Rayearth OVAs DVD on sale at any online stores I've tried looking at expect for only four copies left for sale at Amazon.com. Luckily, I already own a copy of it, but I was just wondering if the Rayearth OVAs are out of print now and if anyone knows why?

By the Rayearth OVAs, I'm assuming you're talking about the one where the girls all attend the same school and Ferio spoiler[ is not such a nice guy and Lantis is dead or dies.]

Well, I just checked Right Stuf and they don't have a listing for it either, so I'm going with it's out of print.

There was a news article on this web site a while back that said that Manga Ent. had lost the rights to several anime. The only one I really remember, because it was the only one that I actually liked, was Fist of the North Star. I remember others being listed as well, but I can't 100% confirm that Rayearth was on there, but I'm about 50% sure.

After I read the news on this site, I cheked out Right Stuf to see if hopefully Fist of the North Star was on clearance, and it was no where to be found. I checked other sites and the same thing. Sound familiar? I got rid of mine a while back, I'm not a Rayearth fan. Maybe I didn't appreciate it as much because I am not a fan of the original. I have to admit the Mechs/Deitys (Forgot how to spell it) looked really cool.

Edit: Nevermind, heres the article...

Manga Entertainment Expired Licenses (2006-01-31 11:29:14)
Manga Entertainment has confirmed that the following licenses have expired: Guyver (OAV), Fist of the North Star (TV), Patlabor 1: The Movie, Patlabor 2: The Movie, New Dominion Tank Police, Red Hawk, Dark Myth, Black Magic M-66, Wings of Honneamise and Gunbuster. The two Patlabor movies have already been announced as being released by Bandai Visual USA's Honneamise label. Thanks to Patrick for this item.
Unless this title was not listed, or a later announcement was made that the licence was lost, Rayearth should still be licenced to Manga.

Well, actually, those 4 copies aren't being sold by Amazon. They're being sold through Amazon by other sellers and they're all used according to the listings.

I searched DVD Price Search for it and it only listed 3 stores. Amazon, DVD Empire - which has it listed, but 'currently unavailable', and eCampus which has it listed, and supposedly in stock. I say supposedly because some stores list everything in stock and then don't tell you it's not until like a month after you tried to order it or something.

If it's a Manga Entertainment title, these days, it's effectively out-of-print no matter whether or not they technically still have the license. At least in North America (with the possible exceptions of their all-time big sellers, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, and the Evangelion movies, though I can't say if stores are still getting new copies of those, or whether it's just old stock).

Which is a shame considering that Manga Entertainment was, a decade ago, one of the first domestic anime distributors (along with Streamline shortly before they went out of business) to really open up the distribution of anime in mainstream retail venues beyond stuffy, overpriced comic book stores. Now they seem to be going out with a whimper.
