I've been visiting this site for some time and have recently registered, looking through all your posts has helped me to no end on finding what is popular, and also what everyones favourite animes are but, i dont remember seeing any that ask for one in particular and ask for a 'Big why?'. Not a simple "it looked cool" or "it had awesome fights" but something close to maybe a small review?

I know users dont like typing for ages sometimes but if you have an anime that has really impressed and/or moved you, (through visual style, detail and quality, musical score, plot, themes, new techniques being tested if that helped), you want to tell people why, in all the little details, and even express how the flaws an anime may have helped make it complete.

Also, the same applies to posts about animes you didn't like, please give an explanation, it will be better understood and appreciated than 'it was crap'.

I will be typing up my post on this for the next little while and hope others will post here also!

Welcome to ANN offically!

I've only been on here a little over a month myself but I've asked about new anime that I've considered buying and people ususally answer. I just asked about Tenjho Tenge & DearS and some of the longtime regulars gave me their opinions. So people do answer.

Another suggestion is to look under the public lists in My Anime (left side under Interactive and check out what others think of certain anime. One way is to see who posts here alot and then look for their name, hopefully that person has taken the time to write alot on their list. I'm still working on mine. I just have to remind myself to do it. Laughing

And about the part "users don't like typing for ages", trust me, there are some who can go on for DAYS! Wink Laughing Laughing Laughing

I've enjoyed myself so far on ANN and I hope that you will do the same.

Have Fun!

Well technically...any proper post on ANN will contain exactly what you said: reasons voting for or against an anime/manga/soundtrack etc. That is one of the forum's policy. Listing is not allowed.

Ex: I like fighting animes like
Naruto
Kenshin
Bleach
DBZ

Neither is a no substance response.
"Yeah man, that show was totally awesome."

Personally, I don't really rely on asking on a forum whether or not to get an anime. I might ask for simple suggestions based on some ideas I want it to have, but that's all. In the few topics I do read where people are asking specifically what's good or bad, I often see very well written posts. I myself try time to time to write those as well if I've seen the series.

Would you know the color ‘Sky Blue’ if you’d never seen the sky?

Currently this film is my favourite anime. At first viewing it caught me on a purely visual basis but on watching this film for a 2nd 3rd and, yes, a 4th time I have come to enjoy not only the visual aspects but the story and issues that are explored throughout. I hope that through this I explain my thoughts clearly.

On a visual level this film has achieved a level of excellence rarely seen in animation, mixing 2D and CG animation successfully, a technique tried many times but usually to very bad effect. The characters, and on one or two occasions the vehicles, are animated in 2D drawings, all rendered in fantastic style and detail, from the slightest movements of hair and lips, to the fast paced action scenes. The quality of the CG animation is astounding, all the sets and vehicles are incredibly detailed and well designed. To watch the first few scenes until Shua leaps from a window gives you a real feel of the ability of the film to stun your eyes into not blinking for fear of what they miss!

The music of this film is simple and limited throughout, used to create atmosphere but never as filler, there are many moments of near silence as music may have acted as to destroy the tension rather than enhance it. The voice acting behind the main characters is well matched but not so with a few of the minor characters throughout the film, this caused me to feel more for the main roles and their plights and distance myself from the others, not by much but it had an effect certainly. Dialogue, in my opinion, very nicely suited the atmosphere and feel of the movie, only a small amount of humour throughout instilled in the figure of Mo, looking strange and having a weasely nature make him the comic relief.

The genre of this feature is common in anime, post-catastrophic future, with action and romance here also. After a environmental catastrophe the world is reduced to wasteland, under the fall of an endless toxic rain, refugees, the Diggers, must not only survive pollution, but also the dangerously uncaring attitudes of the ruling class, the Ecoban, who hold the Diggers lives to be of little value. This social divide provides the main setting for our romance, an almost Shakespearean tragedy, in which we have a Shua (possibly Jay’s first love) thought long dead appearing and getting in the way of Jay and Kade’s relationship. Secrets arise from the past and tensions build towards the ending scenes. Through all this there are get rich quick schemes mistaken for ‘rebel army’ activities and flashbacks, political backstabbing and a few beautifully scripted action scenes.

This film was developed over 7 years and the love and effort put into it by all involved can be clearly seen in every frame of this 82minute masterpiece. I highly recommend this film to any new fans to animation and also the diehards, even if just as an example of how with time and effort, what could have been a plain 2D feature has become something that director Moon Sang Kim will be able to hold up and be proud of for ever! I look forward to more from him and his team and hope to see similar amounts of love in all the works still to come.

What do you think of this? Was it helpful?

^ Question --is that movie also known as "Wonderful Days"?

Like LydiaDianne, I'd suggest taking a look at Interactive > My Anime > Public Lists. Some of the forum mods and encyclopedia staff have good lists with mini-summaries and reviews for many anime. If you see custom categories in a list, aside from the 4 basic ones, that's a good bet that there might be more detailed comments. I have a few comments written on my list as well.

I hate really long responses because it feels like a chore to read, and it makes it take longer to get into the conversation. I didn't quite understand the opening post though... oh well. But what I can say is that I didn't read your post, on Sky Blue, because it was long. I hope that movie comes out in America soon. I think the name was changed to Wonderful Days a while back.

I like this forum. It's easy and most people seem to actually have a brain, although there are exceptions. It's the only forum I visit because I love the fact that people are required to atleast attempt proper English, unlike that AIM shit... a few people come in this forum with that writing, but Nagisa gets on them immediately.

Worry not, drakinkoren. Having a good reason to like or dislike an anime is required at ANN. Cool

Another, more time-consuming way is to look through the ANN "My Anime" public lists. This may lead to blind alleys and disappointments, but if you search for names of people who have thousands of posts and/or demonstrate a good knowledge of many shows, you may find some good ratings and comments, especially from some of this site's staff.

You can take a look at mine. In addition to My Anime, IchigoK90 had created a personal review thread a while ago.
