That was a laugh out loud moment, even enough to warrant typing out those three words. I'm sure some people will not like how the show ends, but I can shrug it off. Bottom line is that Scrapped Princess is a very good, very well done show, and it's unfortunate that it's going to be overshadowed by other shows. I just wish this makes it to TV in some form. |

I KNEW something wasn't right about episode 23 and the opener being there, but I had given away my fansubs and couldn't check it. Still, nice to see a favorable review of a series that remains my favorite anime after 3 viewings and countless other series watched in the meantime.
What? I wouldn't know what you're talking about I'm not about to say that I should have stuck with the fansubs, but I agree with the gripes about Bandai's production. 1) Lack of extras--there's plenty of name/military trivia that could have been done as stillframe text, or also character profiles...stuff that wouldn't have been hard to do or fit on the discs. The figures were nice, but still...Bandai, if you're not going to have any extras, don't kid yourselves (or us) by putting an "extras" menu that only leads to trailers and credits--just put them on the main menu. The next time I want something so stripped-down, I'll buy an ADV Thinpack. 2) Inconsistencies--Aside from the Gigases/Gigantes bit, there was also the matter of Cin/Cz being messed up in the dub, and this added episode 23 opener is also somewhat disturbing. 3) Video issues, though according to Animeondvd, that may have been a fault with the original masters. 4) (added on) No artbox...wtf, couldn't they have packaged one of those figures inside a 6-DVD case, similar to what Geneon did with ROD TV & Tenjou Tenge, or Media Blasters' Grenadier? Luckily, as I've mentioned elsewhere, the V3 LE box, after some minor adjustments and boxcutter work, fits 6 DVDs relatively well (Unfortunately, they may release an artbox when they do a complete collection, which means that all of us who spent the big money get screwed ) I watched Scrapped Princess in English when I got the DVDs, and as a sub fan / purist, I can say that the dub is quite good, barring the issues mentioned above. In Bandai terms, it's certainly much closer to Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain than it is to Love Hina and Escaflowne. Last edited by Zalis116 on Tue Feb 21, 2006 3:03 am; edited 1 time in total |

Finally got a hold of volume 2 which has, up to this point, been damn near impossible to find around here. Of course, I had to pay the insane Suncoast price but at least I can get on with the series now.

This has been one of the best anime series I have sat through. I am mostly a dub watcher, so much of what seems to be the issues surrounding this anime weren’t even noticed by me.
Personally I thought the voice work was amazing, and I loved the fact that the story stayed about the characters all the way through, and not just about giant battles. I thought that maybe “Cin” might sound too close to “Sin” in the dub, as the show is really about fanaticism, in this case religious, that might have mucked up the idea...calling a servant of “god” by a name that implies some sort of demon. Maybe that’s why the called her Cz in the dub...although perhaps that connection would have worked as well. |

Zalis116, regarding your #4. R4 (this being Australia) got an artbox for Scrapped Princess, which I bought from here for $30.59 after shipping.

How many DVDs does it hold?
And do they ship to the U.S.? |

Ooooh, tempting.
That is a possibility--however, if they pronounce the name "Cin" correctly, it shouldn't sound like the English word "sin"; it should sound like "scene," which shouldn't cause any religious problems, Dpelling it with a C instead of an S in the subtitles (which is acceptable) also helps to avoid that problem. Like I said in my last post, the dub is quite good (this coming from someone who normally doesn't watch dubs), but I'm just clueless on why they would make such a needless change. |

I thought "Cz" would have been the more accurate name as the Peace Keepers are all named after weapons (Socom, Styg, etc.).

Steyr. Almost anyone who's ever played CounterStrike will recognize that one rapidly. There are other weapon references, like the giant rock pillars in the background in assorted episodes. They're usually in the shape of guns. Anyway, I have to wonder about the episode counts when balanced against the complete lack of extras. It seems like very little time was put into producing the DVDs. Six DVDs at four episodes each seems a bit excessive without any extras beyond the first two discs. Not that a clean OP and clean ED count as much for extras. At the very least, a timeline of events or something would have been nice. An art gallery, some production cels, anything. Then again, I suppose there's a reason that almost all of these DVDs cost me less than $20. |

"Steyr." That was it. It's been a while since I saw the series. I knew it was the name of one of the rifles from CS. |
