Kenshin as being a series i relunctantly bought before they showed it on CN, I have noticed a few things that really kind of annoy me about the show in its entirety. The dubb isn't all that bad so I can live with that but the consistency in animation is annoying. Its not the quality consistency its the style. For example:
yesterday was the episode of megumi goings to that guys mansion, notice how the characters are drawn. no jump to the Train episode and compare. MAJOR! difference. the train I liked more because it seems more fluid but the style especially the eyes were extremely noticeable.
Its the same if you look at the jingetsu village fight and then look at the cho Sword hunter fight. There reasonably different from the standard.
The fight with the sword hunter was increasingly annoying especially the moment kenshin turns and has the mad face of his. The style is OFF! they didn't even bother to go into the normal detail. Did they do this to reflect the style of the manga at certain points? anybody else notice this?

I've noticed it too. The animation in these episodes was almost certainly subcontracted to a different studio from the norm, a common practice in TV animation on both sides of the Pacific. The most obvious example that springs to mind is Tiny Toons/Animaniacs, two series whose visual styles varied widly from episode-to-episode. It was always easy to tell when an episode had been animated by TMS as opposed to Sunrise or Wang.

I think probably the best example would be Neo Ranga. Story wise the series is good, but the animation style all together changes radicaly. One episdoe will have fairly average animation, then another will have super detailed fluid animtion, then another will have very basic animation with little to no details. It's really hard to keep interested with a series that doesn't stay consistant.
Another example, Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. The animation was perfect almost all the way through, and then suddenly before the last episode everything goes crazy! We get speed lines, sight gags, and even sweatdrops. It was kinda disturbing seeing as how the animation was so nice and dark, really moody up until that point.

Subcontracting to different animation studios is hardly a rare thing. In fact, that's exactly what lead to the recent court case in Japan over the rights to Macross. Face it, getting 20 minutes (ignoring the commercials and credits) of animation done every week is pretty demanding. And I understand that some shows broadcast *twice* a week in Japan. (shudder)
Of course there are times where an 'unfortionate' choice is made, and the subcontractor is unable or unwilling to take the care to follow the guidelines on how the series looks (assuming that sufficient materials *are* provided, I wouldn't be surprised that that doesn't always happen either).
Personally, my one problem with Kenshin is the villans talk too much! I can understand trying to explain what's going on with all the 'special techniques', but a five minute lecture from the villan in the middle of the fight is one of the worst ways to do it. I mean, stop gloating and act like you really want to beat someone up! I'll take a generalized expanation over the one that seems designed for a three-year-old.

the villians do kinda get on your nerves, the only one I liked was the boy shojiro. shishio was a joke in my opinion. great swordsman ha! he used more tricks than his sword. As entertaining as the action may be. the juppan gottena were lame, the fight between the monk and sagara was the best one. (sigh) if only they'd animate the 3rd arc of the manga. which that too I don't feel like waiting a year for someone to publish in english. I recently re watched the prequel OVAs. now that is some good stuff! the enlish dub is growing on me, its not really that bad
