I'm not sure where an article like this would normally go or even if it's welcome, but I thought it might be merit for discussion. I'll keep it short and sweet.

According to the Daily Yomiuri Online's "Flash News" ( source ) there's a quick one-line article: "The Supreme Court upheld Tuesday a lower court ruling that sentenced Tsutomu Miyazaki to death for the murder of four girls in 1988 and 1989"

I'm trying to find a more definitive source. Still thought I'd share for discussion.

EDIT: Didn't take long - Daily Yomiuri has an article on it - http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/20060118TDY01004.htm

So does the Kyodo News: http://home.kyodo.co.jp/modules/fstStory/index.php?storyid=224757

Quote:
over six thousand pornographic anime were found in his house

I wonder if that quote is accurate or something was Lost In Translation.

A quick search of AniDB gives about 500 pornographic anime since the beginning of time (1971).

Additionally does anyone have the source for that quote? It does not appear to be from the Daily Yomiuri article, nor the Kyodo News article, nor the Mainichi News article.

From Wikipedia.

Wikipedia wrote:
A police search of his two-room bungalow turned up a collection of over six thousand pornographic anime and slasher videotapes in his apartment, along with videos and pictures of his victims.

I doubt there were that many produced as well. A more sensible statement would be "...a collection of over six thousand pornographic videotapes in his apartment, including animated and slasher videos, along with those of his victims."

To be fair, while there may not be that many individual series, volumes within a series quickly add up. Wikipedia itself is useless save as a general overview of things (the nature of the wiki keeps the facts it contains from being taken at face value) - however, the article it cites states:

Quote:
Seventeen days later, Miyazaki confessed to murdering Ayako nomoto, whose skull was found the next day in the hills of Okutama. The other confessions followed swiftly: first, the murder of Erika Namba; then Mari Konno, of whom video clips were discovered among the 6,000 tapes in Miyazaki's lair.

About 6,000 tapes, yes, but whether or not they were all anime is indeed questionable. As far as we know, adding to the count could be home videos and self help tapes.

Also, he probably won't get the chair - it's much more likely per Japan's laws he'll be getting lethal injection or hanging.

Wiki says he was sentenced to death by Hanging. Wouldn't they still do that? Or does Japan not do hanging anymore?

Further looking into it suggests that you are correct, and not I. Thanks for correcting me. ^^

A SEVEN YEAR trial? I guess Japan doesn't have the speedy trial clause in their constitution...

Good thing that we have another Miyazaki with a great reputation!

Killing people is horrible enough, but sending pictures of that to their families? That's just pure evil!

I'm somehow not that happy about capital punishment, even for the freakest ones like this guy. Even less happy to know Japan, supposedly such a civilized society, still has capital punishment. And even yet less happy to know they still hang people, like the sarin on subway religious guy. I believe that keeping Miyazaki in jail or the looney bin would have been enough. Laws don't have to condone revenge or passion.

Seppuku would have been fine though.
