i have seen the whole inuyasha series what vol of the manga goes past the anime?

The last episode takes place on chapter 355 of the manga I believe, which is about half-way through volume 36.

how many volumes are there of the inuyasha manga. does it go into more detail than the TV series?

Yeah, it does go into more detail than the TV series, and to answer another question I think it's around 40 right now.

Well, about the Sesshoumaru and Rin thing, this probably doesn't need spoiler tags, but just in case:

spoiler[Sesshoumaru is sort of a fatherly figure toward Rin, and feels very protective of her. She "nursed" him back to health when he was injured, and felt no fear of him despite the fact that he was a demon. When she was killed by the demon wolves, Sesshoumaru used his Tenseiga sword for the first time to save her. He probably kept her around at first for mere amusement, or curiosity perhaps, but by now he seems to have grown some small atatchment to Rin, saving her from danger of a few occasions.]

And yes, I would recommend the manga over the anime, especially if you are going to read it from the beginning. It goes into more depth, and many of the characters are more deep and less annoying. Kagome and Kikyo in particular are both much more likeable and interesting in the manga, though in different ways.

Oh, and they're up to 24 in English now. Viz has a kinda slow release date. >_>
