Might be worth noting, but found this bit in news
Quote:
The stories in Sakura Pakk contain compelling Original English Language (OEL) manga stories that emphasize themes such as the spirit of modern femininity, wellness, friendship, self-confidence in addition to serious topics such as sexual harassment, and teenage depression.

So whether you like OEl or not, the OEL manga market is still making it's push and furthuring it's growth. Will this sink? Who knows, it seem like it's aiming more at the direct comic crowd.

Let me be quite honest here ... it's from eigoManga .... and anything eigoManga does is CRAP. They are notorious for long-winded, meaningless press releases (one which actually pissed off the people at Viz), announcing comic releases that you never see in stores, "accidentally" mail-spamming several major comic distributors and businesses when they first started out, and the one time I actually found one of their anthologies (Rumble Pak), it looked like it was stapled together in some guy's basement after being shoveled off an inkjet printer at 72 dpi. And the actual content was every stereotype of bad OEL rolled into one -- wishy-washy art, bad font selection, and pure cliche setups.

Oh, and then there was all that drama about Austin Osueke being CEO and then not being CEO anymore ... but don't take my word for it, check out their company blog on myspace. http://www.myspace.com/eigomanga Now that just screams professionalism... Laughing

I don't have a personal grudge against them -- it's not like they peed in my cornflakes or anything -- but it just seems that everytime they make the news, it's always the bad stuff that sticks. Which amuses me to no end.

ANN Reviewers are sooo shady. Have you even picked up an EigoManga comic recently? It's put together like any other comic book.

They are publishing through Devil's Due now so do you REALLY think Devil's Due(publishers of GI Joe and Street Fighter) is going to put out sub-par books? C'mon genius, THINK!!!!

I got my copy of Rumble Pak from Tower Records and Borders and I honestly don't think these stores would carry books that are unprofessionally put together. Why don't you do yourself a favor and go pick up a freak'in copy?

I don't really think Austin is fired. He's obviously just playing a rib on people on their "unofficial site". He constantly blogs on that website. You should read more of their blogs and you'll actually see how successful they 're getting. I'm really surprised(and inspired) to find out that they're busy working on a new Nick cartoon. I think it's pretty cool that a studio like them would be cool enough to show to the world that they are just people too. ANN has anime industry professionalism stuck so far up their butts that they look down on any company that isn't a Shuiesha/Viz or Tokyo Pop scale. EigoManga is a young company with a lot of potential... give them a chance to grow like ANN did for Tokyo Pop.

At first I didn't like Austin or EigoMANGA either but now I really respect what they're doing. I think the ANN Reviewers really needs to re-evaluate EigoManga because after all the crap you guys wail on them(I've read your postings for awhile) EigoMANGA is still alive and kicking and producing stuff out there. It's almost like they could care less what people think of them because they love what they do and will continue to do it anyway.

Rock on EigoMANGA!!
