Does anyone know what happened with Rei Hiroe? I know he's taken a sabbatical and Black Lagoon is on hiatus, but it has almost been a year and I haven't heard anything. Is it ever coming back? Is he done with it?

Looks like VIZ released the 9th volume last summer, which is also where the Japanese release stopped.
http://www.blacklagoon.jp/ the OVA is still ongoing in Japan. Checking around, it looks like the manga is indeed on hiatus, wth plans to bring it back at some point. Honestly, it's not such a big deal- as much as people complain about stuff like Berserk's hiatus, these are insanely detailed series that take a lot of work to put out, and there's all kinds of reasons an author slows things down- health (Nana's artist for example), the complicated nature of the story, personal issues, working on different projects [like say, an anime or another manga which is why it took Takahashi so long to do One Pound Gospel]- and the best thing to do is just wait patiently, and read other artist's work until they get around to finishing things. It's not an uncommon thing in manga, or in comics in general [the final years of Bone saw lengthy stretches between issues, but it was worth it. It's a very common thing]. |
