Congrats on the win Hagarin Viper! And anyone else that posts here, too.

its so cool that ANN posted the AMV Contest winners. And I'm surprised that they even posted the results from Iron Editor (which I won). The only one that they missed was the "Best Overflow" award that I won with my "I Choose Hippopotas" AMV that used the song "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas" by Gretchen Wilson and the anime series Pokemon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlVPdfaD4Wc

A great year all around. I really liked that Hippo vid too. Wished that was in the Comedy contest instead of mine.

Ah, I missed that one because I had the voting ballot as reference for all of the other winners, but the information for the overflow winner was only shown for a few seconds and I had no reference to get all the information from, so I couldn't include it. I updated the Closing Ceremonies writeup to add it in, so thank you for providing the information. |

Always miss the Closing Ceremonies, because we are out of town, and have to travel home.
Kudos to those that made it, and for making it a packed house. |

Seeing all of this makes me even more wishful that I was able to go. I feel like I'm the only guy around these parts that has never actually been to an anime convention.

I was there at 1:30 and waited until 2:30pm when I had to leave early. Closing ceremonies didn't even start yet and I really wanted to stay for it, but I had a 4 hour train ride back home

Did you end up sleeping on the train ride home? I've always wondered just how exhausted everyone is after one of these conventions, which is why I thought to ask about it.

I always book my hotel room for an extra night, just so I can spend that night relaxing and getting some good sleep before heading back home. Most conventions aren't terrible though. Assuming the usual Friday-Sunday convention, I'll come up on Thursday so I can pick up my badge, then I'll get a decent night's sleep before getting into the thick of things on Friday. I'll likely just get 4 or 5 hours of sleep, then up for Saturday's events, another 4 or 5 hours then up for Sunday's. Then Sunday I'll get a good nights sleep and be pretty well refreshed on Monday. Of course, I can see why a lot of people wouldn't want to stick around until Monday since they'll likely already have taken Friday off from work and don't want to skip out on Monday as well, but I don't have any such restraints.
Anime Expo is a whole different story though, since it's got one more day in there, so that's one more day of a less than ideal amount of sleep. By the end of that one, I'm usually wiped out, and navigating the huge crowds doesn't help matters. |

I spent most of my train ride home reading or using my laptop. If I sleep on the train, it's usually to kill time. It's about a four-hour trip, but the trains are quiet and comfortable. It was longer than planned on Thursday because one of my trains was cancelled and the one they put me on was behind schedule, then slowed by traffic outside of Baltimore.
I was pretty well rested for the whole convention. I had about six or seven hours of sleep every night... which isn't strictly ideal, but is actually just about normal. (For whatever reason, I seemed to sleep better in my hotel room than I usually do in my apartment ) I had more trouble with eating; I was never hungry enough to be bothered, but lunch did become a purely hypothetical meal. I got into Baltimore on Thursday evening to see to registration. I would have liked to come earlier, but Amtrak didn't offer any sufficiently convenient trains, unless I wanted to double my fare to save five minutes by riding an Acela Express. I left on Sunday afternoon, but I had taken an extra day of leave on Monday to give me time to recover (more psychologically than physically) and catch up on some chores. |

With your mention of all the trains and the Acela I'm getting kind of jealous. I'm starting to think that I would actually prefer the trip to the final destination if I got to ride on all those trains, even though I actually don't find traveling particularly comfortable in real life. Maybe, though, with a destination like an anime convention I would find things a little easier to adjust to. For now, though, I have to avoid places that are too loud and crazy because of my condition. I really appreciate all you guys telling me about it so I can live vicariously through you though!
