Not sure if this fits in this forum, but I was wondering what everyone was using to keep track of or organize their DVD/Bluray collections? I've been using DVD Profiler for quite some time, but find it to be a little lacking at times.
I'm looking for something that has more options to sort and view my collection. I suppose the options included are fine for live action, but with anime, not so much. For example, after reading the Best of Bandai article the other week, I went to look at my collection to see just how many Bandai titles I had, but there is no option to sort that way and not even a clear way to have who released it listed. Other things have popped up from time to time (though they're not big enough issues that I can think of them right now...) but if anyone is using other software to keep track of their collection, please share and let me know as I'd like to look into a more robust piece of software. Of course if you've switched from DVD Profiler and were able to import your collection smoothly, please mention that, as I don't feel like re-entering tons of titles... Thanks! |

I just use an Excel spreadsheet with columns like "Title" "Distributor" "No of episodes" "No of discs" "No of eps/disc" "Anime/live action" For example:
Title No of episodes No of discs Eps/disc Singles/parts/collection Baccano! 16 4 4 Collection Bamboo 26 4 6 or 7 Parts Blade Vampire 13 4 4 or 5 Collection Knight Vampire 13 4 4 or 5 Singles Knight Guilty I list things by series, so I'll keep everything of a series together, even if they're singles which were purchased seperately. I then have a total at the end of the number of discs column. |

While I'm a bit behind on updating it, I started using Guru Library to keep track of my books, video games, and DVDs. It's been a pretty good system, as long as you keep on top of it.

I mainly use DVD Aficionado with an Excel sheet for backup.

I used to use DVD Spot back in the day until they shut down. I tried the other sites at the time and found them all incredibly lacking compared to the system that was in place on DVD Spot. I was especially disappointed in DVD Afficianado, particularly considering it's the one that is most used but yet it seemed to be the most poorly implemented of the options. I don't know how it is now, but at the time it paled in comparison to DVD Spot. Unfortunately after I couldn't find a good replacement for DVD Spot I put the concept of tracking my collection aside and really haven't looked in to it since.

I also use an Excel spreadsheet. My columns are Title, Format, # of Discs, UPC, and Catalog #.

I've used DVDaf, DVDSpot and DVDProfiler all in the past and while Spot had a lot of cool statistics, I actually prefer DVDaf. The reason is that it's a lot easier/faster to add titles and it has by far the most comprehensive database. I've only had to add a handful of titles to it, unlike DVDSpot where it felt like I was adding about 1 in 10. No, DVDaf doesn't give you a lot of stats and whatnot, but for a simple "do-I-have-this" cataloging tool, I think it's the best.
I've always kept a spreadsheet since there weren't a lot of cataloging websites around the time I started collecting and it remains the most comprehensive, but does take a bit of time to set up. I've modified mine over the years after seeing what other like-minded stat-nerds have done with their own. I'm always interested to see how others track their data. This and this are the two main sheets I use and I'm able to compile a fairly robust amount of statistics from these that I'm happy with. |

Thank you for responding everyone. I hadn't thought of using excel, but at this point it seems like it would be a lot of work to get it going, plus I do have to admit that I enjoy seeing the cover art that most programs provide. Thinking about it now I actually used excel when I collected comics for a short time when I was a kid (wish I could find that file...) but there were a lot fewer options back then and it's a lot easier to do when you start your list at the beginning.
I'll have to take a look at DVD aficionado, but are they only web based? I wouldn't want to have my collection end up like DVD spot (which sounds like it was quite good). I found this software while looking around online: http://www.collectorz.com Has anyone checked it out?
I couldn't find anything about this software, do you have link you could provide? |

I am using All My Movies program ( http://www.bolidesoft.com/allmymovies.html ) for managing my movies. The best thing I like about All My Movies, it can download movie details automatically from IMDb. It is important for me to not fill all the details manually
