I don't know what happened, but whenever I type ANN's main website address into the url bar I get the Australian version. Putting aside the standard Kiwi-Ozzie banter for a moment, I want the main site because its bigger and more people are on the forums. I do not want to be directed to another website, I want the website I typed into the url bar.
What makes it worse is that A: it takes two separate clicks (not a doubleclick) on "USA" to get back to the main site, not just one, and B: now I'm logged out of the main site and have to log back in every time I go to it. Probably caused by having to log into the ANN.au site because it refused to transfer me to the main site until I logged in to it. And now I'm further trapped in this horrible situation. Great. Nothing has changed on my end (haven't upgraded Firefox yet for example), so I know that this sudden and incredibly annoying thing is not caused by something I've done. Therefore, could Admin find out whatever setting they tinkered with and change it back to how it was before? Thanks. |

I've been in Australia for over three years now, and until today my bookmark for ANN has never redirected to the .au site; but now I find I am experiencing that behavior on both Chrome 10 and IE 8.
Given that the problem isn't isolated to one browser, I gather the site itself is responsible. Is this new? I'd really rather link to the US site by default. |

Its defiantly the site, since im being redirected while using Firefox as well.
Just because i live in Australia and am Australian, dosent necessarily mean i want to be using the Australian site. I prefer to import through Rightstuf rather than buy domestically for a variety of reasons, so the US site is far more useful to me, in addition to having more content/news. I know a few other web sites that do this, and I fhave always found it to be thoroughly irritating. If I wanted to go to the Australian site, i would be adding '.au' to my address bar, i dont need someone else deciding where i want to go. |

I wouldn't mind so much if most of the forum wasn't collapsed by default when viewing from .co.uk

Sorry for springing this on you without any warning, I really should have made a proper announcement, which I now did. I'll be smoothing out the rough spots throughout the day.

Also, the Oz version can't access the US reviews, news etc.
Scrap that. Your announcement says otherwise. |

Can you rephrase that? Because I have no idea what you mean. Also, not to contradict you, but one site is not "bigger" than the other. All the content, encyclopedia, forum, etc is the same. Only the layout is different. If anything, the UK/AU sites are bigger since they have more news. |

Edit:
Oh, so they're all collapsed. I didn't realise that until now. So it is indeed possible to view the main forums on the Australian site. I think the feature is actually quite useful and clever, although a bit of a heads up would have been very helpful. Anyway, all's well that ends well. ---------- Thanks for replying.
Okay. Two things can happen. #1): So I'm in the ANN.com.au site, which is the site I get whenever I type ANN.com into the url bar. I click on "USA". Nothing seemingly happens. And I mean nothing; there isn't even an attempt to load a new page. I click on "USA" again and it suddenly transfers me. When I do get to the main site, I arrive logged out, even though I have an ANN cookie that's supposed to auto-log me in. #2): Or, when I'm in the ANN.com.au site I click on the "USA" button and it asks me to log into the ANN.com.au site. I click the "USA" button again and I get to the main site. Sometimes I'm already logged in when I arrive; I suspect that may be because I may have logged in previously in the same computer session and so I'm remembered (at least until the session finishes). Hope I was clear.
Although ANN.com.au has the same content from the main site, I want the forums too. ANN.com.au does not have the same forums as ANN.com. And for all of ANN's charms, especially its useful Encyclopedia, it is the main forums that I use the site for the most. Are you able to help me? |

The "views" tab on the .co.uk site is missing most of its links - you just get "reviews" and "features". Also, it took a while to realise that all of the forum boards are available on the .co.uk site too - having the board list collapsed like that just gives the impression that there's nothing to see (apart from one board with not much but tumbleweed and unmoderated spam posts, one board that's locked and one board that's not only locked but also says it covers "anime related events in Australia"). I realise now that the forum content we're used to can also be reached but having everything worth looking at collapsed and the boards nobody uses highlighted isn't exactly likely to appeal to new visitors. Frankly, there really isn't enough UK-only content (or enough UK users) to justify a separate board at the moment. Lastly, I understand why you're automatically redirecting people but it comes across as being more than a little bit presumptuous and it's not something I encounter with other sites. Something like Amazon uses (where if you visit the .com site from the UK, it reminds you there's a .co.uk site and provides a prominent link) would feel a whole lot less intrusive. Better yet, if there were any actual benefit to using the .co.uk site, you wouldn't have to push people onto it - they'd go there voluntarily. |

The only real issue I have with this is that the other forum tabs don't automatically open when you visit it. |

I would like to have an RSS feed that covers both ANN and ANN-UK.
At the moment I can subscribe to the ANN feed, but then I miss the UK-specific stuff, or subscribe to the ANN-UK feed, but then I miss the NAmerica-specific stuff. I'd subscribe to both feeds if that didn't result in 90% duplicated posts I have to skip manually. |

The forced redirect is completely obnoxious.
If I wanted the Australian site, I'd go to the Australian site. |

"In the news.." for encyclopedia pages doesn't function. Only works for very recent news items. Have to swich to .com to search the archives properly. |

I have to agree about the forced redirect and it should be removed as soon as possible, I come to ANN for Region 1/USA news not Uk news for which I visit other UK based sites.
