geeeh why do I have the feeling this whole mess is because of some one pissing and moaning about something they don't like about nintendo and decided to start up a shit storm

Except there was no real evidence taht people DID get their credit card info stolen. Sony just said the encrypted data was stolen. On the surface that looks like the same thing, but years later there isn't a single proven case of someone using actual stolen data from Sony. The encyption seems to have worked, or the forced password changes did.

I JUST changed my Club Nintendo info this morning, so I hope I'm good...

Because you probably just finished up watching Fox News.

The actual source of the attacks wasn't done on Club Nintendo, but rather another system. The party then focused its attention on Club Nintendo, and basically took the login/password combo and hit up against the server, resulting in the 24k compromise.

This is a good lesson to remind people never to share username/passwords on different sites.

You're fine. What this article mysteriously fails to mention is that it is only Japanese Club Nintendo accounts that have been compromised. The ones in other countries are perfectly fine.
