Well, Kakurenbo is coming on tonight on AdultSwim. I personally can't wait to see this!! What do you think about Kakurenbo? Also, why is Kakurenbo considered a movie? It seems like more of a OVA to me.

Well I haven't actually seen Kakurenbo, but from what I understand about it, it could technically be called an OVA because it went straight to video but it is a movie because as far as I know there aren't episodes. It looks really good and the production sketches as seen at this site http://www.yamato-works.com/e_illust.htmlproduction look freakin' sweet. (I don't know why the url is not working)

http://www.yamato-works.com/e_illust.htmlproduction You left a space at the end. That's why it wasn't working. |

but it's only 30 minutes long! A movie is usually twice that. |

Thanks I wondered why.
There is no set time for movies. Some are forty minutes, others three hours and some are even five minutes. It is a movie because there are no episodes. A movie isn't defined by the time interval in which it plays. The definition of a movie is a series of real or fictional events recorded by a camera and projected onto a screen as a sequence of moving pictures, usually with an accompanying soundtrack. If you are going to say "but that doesn't include animation", then look closer because animation is the same thing. They take pictures of frames and after a while it becomes a film strip. Which is exactly what Kakurenbo is. It does not have episodes because it is not a television show. There fore it has to be a movie. It is technically an OVA (original video animation) because it went straight to video but they usually only refer to something as an OVA when there are episodes. |

If they explained those things, then it wouldn't be so creepy and mysterious. I really wasn't very impressed overall. It certainly looks nice, but that's less important to me than what is actually going on. |

I think the flaws that you see come from the assumption that it has to explain everything. It's obvious that they aren't trying to explain everything. The viewer goes into it with as little knowledge as the characters do. If they wanted to tell everything, then, certainly, they would have made it longer so more could be explained. However, they chose to withhold information from the viewer. It's just a different way of storytelling. |

as with all movies that are supposed to be 'scary' if they explained how everything came to be, then it just wouldnt be scary...

Well I watched it west coast time and I thought it was pretty good short film. As some have said short films all most all ways leave giant holes. I thought the basic idea's were developed enogh to enjoy it. At 30 mins it cant go that far and the premis did not really need that much development IMO.

Not good, not bad. Could of been better. Art is great but it lacks in the presentation/story department. Had me stratching my head a few times. Perhaps a second go is need to get it...

It was Meh. Yeah I said ¨Meh¨. Kinda boring for some reason I expected more but maybe thats why I wasnt too enjoyable for me. It was too short.... way too short and they couldve added more if they cut some things out and it wouldnt have killed them if they translated the japanese writing at the begining. Does anyone know what that said? If so please write it.
