Wow, are they milking patlabor, lol
are they aiming for older otaku~ish americans or are they trying to appeal to new younger people? I'm not sure where they stand I will definitely get HOTD OVA for that price I usually hate OVAs because they are bad and expensive, but that is a great price I will also pick up nakaimo for certain I actually own one volume of the japanese blu-ray release of nakaimo I dont know about little busters I definitely see a part 1 and part 2 release coming |

I wouldn't say they are milking Patlabor. This is the first North American Bluray release and the DVDs have been out of print for some time now. This version has noticeably better video quality.
The TV series has 47 episodes and is being released in four sets. |

Yeah, Fate/Stay Night was issued on Blu-Ray in two sets but was in a single DVD collection. Vampire Princess Miyu was also OOP for some time but it was released in a full DVD set. Gatchaman's being released in a single massive set but that's also DVD. I can understand 4 Blu-ray sets but the four DVD sets seems like MJ's worried of having the single DVD set {or even 2} outsell the four BD sets.
According to their own press releases {and the fact they're streaming it like it was a new series, one episode a week}, they think it's quite a get. So I'd say MJ's taking a "if you release it, they will buy" approach with older fans while trying to fish for new ones. I saw the first episode on demand, just to remind myself on what I saw all those years ago. Too much static animation for me in a Blu-ray purchase and I'm not buying four DVD sets of a license rescue. NAIKAIMO really depends on the dub cast as the Japanese version was a little too bland by itself. Never mind dubbing, I can't believe they're releasing La storai della Arcana Famiglia; An adaptation of an otome game that works as its prologue; Wow, I can't even begin to describe how much of a waste of time that was. Technically, it's a whole series flashback for a story that's never set in the present. ...Well, I guess I can describe it. Little Busters!? More like Little Busters?! With a good dub, maybe... Yumeria and Divergence Eve, two series that most everyone has already said "no" too multiple times already.
Interesting as I think it's a terrible value for something that looks like it wouldn't even be worth much even if it was included for free on the first release. Though it does make the Baka and Test OVA set seem worthwhile. Overall, a pretty bland month. |

Actually there is a reason for breaking the TV show into four sets. I initially wondered why they had only four episodes on each Bluray disk when I got the first set since most companies put up to 9 episodes on a disk.
Apparently CPM made a number of minor cuts when they put out the dubbed version. As a result MJ was unable to match the reissued uncut version to the existing dub. What they did was provide an uncut subbed version and a cut dubbed version of each episode. You select which version you are going to watch when you select your audio preference. As a result each disk of four episodes has the equivalent of 8 episodes on it. I assume they did the same with the DVDs but I only have the Blu-ray version. It is a show I really like and I feel the story makes up for any limitation in the animation. However that is up to each individual to decide. The Blu-ray version is way better than the older version and well worth the cost to double dip. |

I don't have much interest in anything else listed above really, but I'm certainly getting the Patlabor releases as they appear, and don't consider that I'm being ripped off at all, considering the quality and what Alan45 said. |

Wow, now I'm really uninterested in them. There's thing called "dubbing", I don't know if MJ heard of it but if you're going to charge for a new dub, redub it. |

Patlabor TV is a 1989 show. The chance that it would sell well enough to warrant a dub is vanishingly small. However there is an existing dub and they made an effort to include it for people who want it. Given all the complaining on the threads which discuss Black Magic M66 and New Dominion Tank police, people do want existing dubs no matter how bad. Unfortunately they were not available in those cases. |

CPM edited Patlabor? What did they edit out, anything terribly important? Having finished my first CPM set a good while back, I don't think it was anything noticeable, but I'm still damn curious.

Really minor silly stuff. A few seconds of the chief mechanic saying "shit", a few seconds of a revolving machine gun firing. Stuff like that. None of it seems to have affected the story, but it doesn't seem to warrant the cut either. It says something that apparently few if any people noticed. I like that MJ made the effort. This approach would work with some of the edited for TV things. Just give both versions. |

The dub Sentai is using is from the version that aired on TV, so it's edited. From what I've read, the CPM DVDs are wholly uncensored (dub and all), it's just Sentai got shafted/lazy when it came to which dub they could get for their release.
