I´m just wondering why people like anime so much and would like to hear from the anime fans themselves.

Personally I like Anime because the majority of the time it is an original story and unpredictable. Hollywood is beginning to be the same crap over and over, with the exception of a few (Props to Four Brothers). Recently I found myself predicting what was going to happen in a movie. About 90% of the time I was correct. I know that not all anime is gold, anyone ever heard of Gunparade March, but the majority is original but most importantly entertaining. Cowboy Bebop was fun all the way through which is more than I can say for just about any Hollywood movie or TV show. Anime kills off charcters all of a sudden I mean you hardly, if ever, see a big name actor die within the first half of the movie. In anime, any character is fair game. spoiler[Nina and Hughes are great examples and made me fall in love with FMA.] I guess thats my reason for watching Anime so what´s yours?

I like anime because the story telling style is captivating to me. I am almost always drawn in to the story. For me anime has exspanded my entertainment boundries in that I would never watch romance or strictly drama in the past. As far as Holly BooB, I think they stoped for the most part making good films along time ago like the 70's. Another reason I like anime is I hate with a passion syndicated tv. Thats right I hate shows like Freinds and any other so called reality Tv show. Alot of the stuff on History channel is propaganda and don't even get me started on shit like court tv,the family channel barf. So if I am going to watch fiction I would rather see cool artwork and a more sophisticated story line.
I do watch alot of news also packed full of a healthy diet of propaganda and CN on tv but thats about it. I still buy reg Holly boob movies once in awhile like Star Wars .... I have heard of Gun Parade March, oh and it's one of my favorites but I am a stange person so go figure. There are so many reasons to like anime but the best reason of all is that it is entertaining. Smile

I like anime because I feel that the story is better tied together than most of the things we have in North America, because most anime has a set number of episodes (usually 26) and thus can't afford to waste time without moving the main plot. This is why I usually avoid the anime that are massively large, because they don't give me what I want.

Because it's more intelligent than then the watered-down kiddie shit we get here in the U.S., like Spongebob and Static Shock, a.k.a. "Whew, good thing they had airbags!" Laughing

Because there's more of it and a larger variety with a varying array of storylines and depth. I'm a fan of animation in general though, I'm not bias towards or against anime, there's just more of it and as such has more high quality titles. That said though, to be honest a good deal of my favorite animated titles are not anime, but a good deal of them are.

I like anime because they can get away with more than American cartoons... I mean, how many times have you gone to Blockbuster or Media Play or places like that and seen them saying something like "Spongebob Squarepants Uncut!!!"? I am going to take a very good guess and say never... See my point?

For me, I find the stories and characters to be more imaginative than other stuff, and it's this imagination that makes anime fun and different. Also, I like anime because of how it allows complete freedom to create anything that's free from the laws of physics and constrictions of live action; take the Boar at the beginning of Princess Mononoke with the writhing "snakes" all over its body, imagine trying to replicate that in a live action movie.

That's completely untrue. The majority of anime is just as unoriginal and predictable as what comes out of Hollywood. Film industries in every country churn out a lot of rubbish. It really irritates me how so many people who like anime seem to think it is superior and more intelligent than anything else. A hell of a lot of good films still come out of Hollywood and there are also a lot of very good independent movies that are made in the US. Some very good television series are made in the US as well. Deadwood is as good as any recent anime series and I don't think I have ever seen a sci-fi as good as the best Star Trek series.

The reason I enjoy anime is really to do with the fact that I appreciate what can be done with animation. Animation is an exciting medium, it's a shame more filmmakers don't take advantage of what if offers. It just so happens that in Japan animation is taken more seriously on a whole than in other countries so as of such a Japan produces the largest selection of decent animation. Of course that's not to say other countries don't also produce quality animated movies and series. There are also certain cultural elements which make anime interesting.

With a big enough budget that could probably be done quite effectively. One only has to look at LOTR to see what can be done in live action movies.

I know what your going through. I saw a ton of hollywood movies over the summer and the only two movies that actually entertained me to some point were Four Brothers (also props to it. Best Movie of the summer!) and 40 year old virgin (predictable but hilarious). The only thing that really makes me think hollywood movies are that they seem to rarely have any plot twists.

Now for the main question. I like anime because of many things. 1. The art style was very new to me and appealed to my tastes more than american cartoons.
2. Anime uses more music in the cartoons which in my opinion makes it better unless it doesn't really fit the scene or mood.
3. Most of them have exposed me to new ideas and concepts.
4. They were really something new to me.

Why do I like anime? Well thats a long one.... Oh, what the hell, its story time!

Once, loooong ago, (say... five years ago) I was living in Peru, where finding anime is like finding El Dorado on Olimpus Mons. So! I was watching a new "random" tv station that the cable company was trying out. You have to know, back then I was really tired of watching the same shows on CN every day. I mean... Really tired. So, along comes a television program called an "Anime"... and im like... what? Is this new? And what do you know? It was new! It was anime! (I forget the name of the show, but it was about robot girls with "human hearts") After watching the first episode I was hooked. And I watched every one without fail. Until, at least two months later... the show ended. I was heart broken, "where can I find more of this "Anime"?" I thought... little did know it would be two years till I found a new source. It was two years of hell. Anyway! Now Im back in the zone. Anime at my finger tips, and bliss in my mind. And thats why I like anime.

Lots of reasons, but the main one is the storylines they're original and well written with great characters. I'd also be lying if I said the violence, adult language, and situations weren't a factor either. I also like anime's distinctive art style, the chance to learn about another culture, and also because there's nothing else really interesting on television to watch, as far as fiction goes, anymore other than a few exceptions.

I've always loved animated shows and movies, but most Western nations seems to be stuck on the idea animated shows/movies are for kids with ADD. while that was okay for me when I was younger now that I'm older I crave something with a more cohesive plot than a lot of US cartoons have. granted, there are exceptions, but in general anime tends to have a more cohesive, involving plot instead of the randomness cartoons tend to have and altho many anime series are aimed at a younger audience there are those aimed more towards an older teen/adult audience making it the perfect way to indulge my inner, animation-loving, child.

(gods... that last part makes me sound old... altho I guess 25/26 is old to some Laughing )

I like animation.

Growing up, "special effects" ment something explodes. Boring. When something was animated, the storyteller could make anything real. Tell the story without the constraints of the physical world.

Unfortunatly, most of US animation, well, sucks.

When I discovered Anime, it was like walking for years and then having someone introduce you to an automobile.
