Glad we get a warning on that one. I hate getting hyped for a show each week then it airs a recap episode.

Not a problem. Epic anime series usually have these kind of episodes. Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, and others come to mind. AoT is no exception, and to be honest I don't mind. If WitStudio needs more time, then give it to them (maybe they anticipated the workload and the recap was scheduled because of that). In the long run, the only thing that will matter is the quality of the finished work. More time will help accomplish that. This series is a not even on its half point and it's quickly becoming a cult hit. Already an internet sensation. Whatever needs to be done in order to continue the quality, it should be done.

The only thing that surprises me about this is that they managed to get to episode 13 without having a recap. I kinda wish there was a tradition in anime that when a show gets behind in production and "needs" a recap for breathing room that they simply air a re-run instead. That's all a recap is, after all, and then later when the full set comes out, it doesn't have to be junked up with a recap eppie.

Hey, as long as it doesn't turn into a Wolf's Rain 4 consecutive recap episodes to catch up production.........

Fine with me.
Most anime of 26 eps tend to break the show up when it comes to the half way point so newbies can join in, and also so it gives the animation staff a chance to catch-up on the work for future eps. |

I generally hate recaps but they CAN be great if done really well. The only good recaps that come to my mind are the Gundam Wing and Death Note recap episodes.
Gundam Wing's recaps explain all the confusing plot points, reveals a lot of stuff, the 2nd recap mixes old animation with some new animation, and gives us some understanding of Heero and Treize. Death Note just recap the events with awesome narration from L with some awesome soundtracks. The we get some new animation at the end that reveals where the show is gonna go from that point. |

Maybe they can add some info, or talk about some things we might have missed.

The "breaking" up of the show so newbies can join in doesnt matter when you can just stream the older episodes effortlessly.. i just hope that the episodes after hte recap are less of a slideshow now that they get a "break" |

With today's attention spans it's lucky we don't get a recap every 4 episodes.

Which is great for Americans but I'm 99% sure Japan can't do the same, at least for this show. |

AoT appears to be one of the series that Nico Nico streams in Japan: http://ch.nicovideo.jp/2013spring-anime |

Huh, ok, I didn't know that AoT was on NicoNico, gotta give points there, but DVR isn't exactly 'streaming'.
