I'll take what ever I can get of this series legally here. Still it's sad as hell that the original author of the light novels is gone..

I heard the ZnT manga is even worse than the Index manga when it comes to adaptation quality. No clue if that applies to this sequel manga though.

Hmm that's a shame.. but there isn't many legal choices left to support the franchise here. I already own the genon/funi season one box-set lol.

As far as I'm concerned, Index has been adapted well so far. I never read the ZnT mangas, but enjoyed the anime series well enough. A pity the original author is dead, and in japan, new authors rarely continue a franchise, unlike in North America and Europe, where new authors frequently continue a universe with new books.

We're unlikely to see more ZnT unless a non-Japanese writer decides to pick up the rights to make sequels. And I can only see that happening if they end up being popular here. Meanwhile, we're left with season 1 out of print and season 4 licensed, but season 2 and 3 not being released at all. Sigh.

I also own the original Geneon box set of season 1.

funny you mention that, digging around on amazon it seems that there was a English released planned for familiar of zero light novels. I don't know what happened but it seemed that 7 seas was going to publish them here.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, Seven Seas had planned to release a bunch of different light novels in the US. However, they abruptly canned/cancelled that plan due to poor sales. Zero no Tsukaima was one of those in the queue and later scrapped. This was also the reason for the delay of Strawberry Panic!'s final novel, which was only released in the omnibus novel..

Heh... My 4 Aug '08 order with TRSI included Ballad of a Shinigami Novel 3, Kanokon Novel 1, Pitaten Novel 3, Strawberry Panic Novel 3, Zero's Familiar Novel 1 (which were all cancelled by Seven Seas), and a few other books. My notes also show a 2nd Zero's Familiar novel listed for a 31 Dec '08 release.

When a translated manga's actually based upon a novel, I don't usually buy it, since I'd rather have the original source. Most of the time, I am more than willing to watch and buy animated adaptations of novels. I guess that I just feel that if I'm going to have printed material, it might as well be the original.

Well damn dude thanks.. this actually helps fills the time in when the license appeared and that they did plan more.
