Kyle Pope's Edit List takes a look at some of the edits in Inu-Yasha. The DVD's probably have the openings, but there isn't really anything major that the [AS] is missing, I don't think.

There were some minor edits in the intial batch of episodes, but as AS' standards got looser editing practically vanished on Inuyasha.

A friend of mine told me that in the first episode of Inuyasha,
Inuyasha was cussing in that episode. |

And I'm sure your friend was basing that off of a fansub, too. Thing is, fansub translations are typically very loose for a whole, wide range of reasons (and don't let anybody ever tell you otherwise), and one of those reasons is because some of these "translators" will insert excessively foul language in spots where it really doesn't exist. They'll usually do it to make children's and prime-time family's shows (Inu-Yasha being the latter) appear more "mature" in order to cover up for some inferiority complex about watching cartoons. Fact of the matter is, the Japanese language really doesn't have much in the way of "swear words" as we would recognise them, just some really rude choice of words. Any insertion of swearing by any fansubbers or professional translators is a judgment call to make the script more "natural" to us, and can (especially in the fansubbers' case) get way out of hand at times. So, basically it's like emory said: he's full of it. |
