I've been getting some crap like "you're too asian" blah blah, but I dont care either. I'm me and i really dont care what others think. if they think im a loser (i dont think anyone does, but if they do...) so be it. its their loss for not getting into anime, not mine.

get that reaction from my dad too (and i'm 20.5 years)
i watch anime and they leave me be so i'm happy with it.

When others ask me what i do and i respond "watching anime", they often say "ok" but i know they haven't got a clue what that means Smile and i'm happy with that

As they should, since they are practically right.

I just don't bring it up unless it's relative, because going in depth like a giant dork bores everyone else and doesn't do anything for me. It has times and it has places.

Sounds like there's a small insecurity issue there..., but that aside, if you truely enjoy anime, then ENJOY anime, and to heck with what every/anyone else says. I've been an avid anime fan for years and absolutely NO ONE ELSE amounst my family and friends is in to it; their loss. I'm no more embarrassed about being into anime/manga than I am about being into golf (although my tee shots tend to cause me to blush now and again-I swear they make golf balls from left over boomerang parts Embarassed ).

People with different hobbies and fetishes will from time-to-time harrass you. Parents and friends may give you a bad time, even call your hobby infantile (meaning you're suposedly too old to be liking anime); so what. Smile at them for their blatant ignorance, slip your favorite show into the VCR/DVD player, and ignore them. Life's too short to get caught up on what everybody else thinks........ Wink

My family and friends used to mock my anime watching... but I've been watching it for so long they don't care anymore. Wink

Not really. Anime is slowly becoming popular with the mainstream crowd.

My parents don't complain about anime anymore after I made them come to the theatre with me to watch Howl's Moving Castle. And my friends make jokes about it all being porn, then I show them something like Gunslinger Girl, and they shut up. I flaunt my love of anime. If someone has a problem with it, let them deal with it. But you won't catch me cosplaying. EVER.

Get some new friends. Stop hanging out with the so-called "friends" you have now, because they're obviously morons who probably rave about crap like Clay Aiken or the Super Bowl.

As for me, I'm not embarrased about liking anime. ALL of my friends are into it, in fact, anime is how I met all of them. I watch anime on my laptop in my college's cafeteria all the time and nobody gives me any shit. If you feel embarrassed, stop watching anime now, because you obviously can't deal with the "consequences".

Embarrassed? No

Anime is not in the "mainstream" yet and is frowned upon. There are those people who find flaws with certain things you would like no matter what they are- usually, they are the people whom you would not want to spend time with.

In other words, if they continually give you crap about like anime, they are not true friends.

Western culture is ingrained with the idea of "conformism" and "reality". Whereas anime is not mainstream, can be considered 'non-conformist", and "fantasy". Thus, some people will always give you hate for it.

And people razzing on other is not limited to anime. Some people, if you aren't exactly like them, will razz you.

Anyone has the right to like anything they want without being unfairly judged by anyone (or at least, without being mercilessly harangued for it). PERIOD. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
