Good for the UK that they are able to have blu-rays for Ghibli movies long before we do. They've had blu-rays for Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro for years before they finally made stateside (they even have one for My Neighbors the Yamadas), so I can only wonder how long before Kiki makes it over (and Tales from Earthsea, but I'm speaking for myself there). Still waiting for someone to work on Spirited Away's blu-ray transfer.

"For years" is a bit too strong a phrase when Howl's has been available in Japan on Blu-ray for little more than a year (Nov. '11 release) and Totoro for less than a year (Jul. '12 release).
Hmm... /me goes to AmazonUK. It looks like Howl's hasn't even been available for a year, yet. The UK Howl BD had a June 2012 release, and Totoro was Nov. '12...
"Years"?

They haven't even been out in Japan for "years", which I'm going to assume is specifically more than 2.

Fine, I admit my error. I've been an Amazon UK shopper for a while and it seems like those titles have been there a long time. So if it's taken a year for them to come stateside post-UK, perhaps this means we're waiting a whole another year for Kiki.

This is great news for the UK. I hope we don't have to wait to much longer to see it stateside.

Speaking of which, what is next on Japan's Ghibli Blu Ray release schedule?

That's precisely it. Disney has had an exclusive contract with Ghibli in the US for the last 10 years. They used to release (dubtitled) discs in the UK as well, but thankfully Optimum (now Canal) took over and have done a much better job. They are not beholden to Disney for anything, at least for these older titles with existing dubs etc, so can keep their own schedule.
