Do you think Aoi Hana is a good fit for RightStuf?

I think this title (aka Sweet Blue Flowers) and other romance titles that depict same-sex relationships being licensed by RightStuf is a good complement to a marketing image that perhaps embodies that genre of anime.

RightStuf has projected interest in catering to fans of yaoi and yuri in the past but I think the North American licencor that embraced it the most was Media Blasters, but unfortunately has faced severe reduction in their anime output, if not entirely postponed for the foreseeable future.

Ironically RightStuf and Media Blasters are each based in states that have made progressive strides in equality for LGBT people, such as the legalizing of same-sex marriage in both states. I'm not saying there's a correlation between the heightened success of companies releasing titles with same-sex relationships, and the GLBT friendliness of the states those companies are located in (I don't know maybe there is). I just think CEOs or marketing directors of anime companies take this into consideration, and may be more willing to kind of project themselves as GLBT-friendly with the titles they release, and predict that the consumer response to that image will be more positive than negative.

I'm not sure the policies of the state have much of an impact on licensing decisions - Iowa only has three million people(most of whom probably aren't anime fans), for example, so as long as torches, pitchforks and jailtime weren't likely I don't think RightStuf would care too strongly if the entire state were against them since it's just a tiny sliver of the market. As for Media Blasters, I don't believe that any of the yuri series they got were noted for realism, so again local opinions probably wouldn't be weighed too heavily.

Yeah, I don't think state policies have anything to do with the fact that Nozomi/TRSI or Media Blasters have shown a willingness to release yuri/yaoi titles in the past. In the case of MB, they released a ton of OVAs so given the sheer volume of stuff, it's not surprising some of them were yuri/yaoi. I don't think there was any master plan on their part. As for Nozomi/TRSI, they are niche masters - that's part of their brand. Their yuri/yaoi choices tend to be higher quality than MBs were/are - they don't go for the more exploitative stuff. (With Weather Report Girl being a rare exception.)

But to answer the queston in the OP subject line: yeah, Aoi Hana is a perfect fit for Nozomi. No surprise they got it.
