If this is done right like the new legendary pictures Godzilla seems to be, then omg hell yes. Cannot wait, I hope it gets made. I suppose the way the new Godzilla is received at the box office will have alot to do with it.

I have a feeling this will result in a trend of all the studios scrambling to get the rights/produce as many remakes of classic Japanese monster movies just to capitalize on whether or not Godzilla will do well...though I wouldn't mind going to see a new Gamera film?

Apparently the source for the news updated "This was a Joke" after Sam Witwer made the comment.
In a way I'm a bit disappointed, but I think Godzilla is the only Japanese monster profitable enough to aspire an American remake (an argument can be made for Gamera I guess, but he's not as incorporated into American pop culture as Godzilla). Still my girlfriend and I would have enjoyed a big budget Mothra movie if it truly was to happen :p |

In a way, I'm kind of glad this turned out to be a joke, as Mothra's not exactly a favorite of mine...but if they were going to do anything but Godzilla, it'd be her, Rodan, or Ghidorah I'm sure.

Yep even before this was debunked, I question if this was true or not. I don't think mothra was popular enough among western audience to get a remake. If we ended up remaking Godzilla and Mothra, then can we allow Japan to remake King Kong as a collateral since Japan has been remaking some of our American films like Unforgiven for example. |
