Hi,
I'm trying to get a sense of this show. People obviously seem to like it a lot, as I've seen it mentioned here and there. Some people were also saying that it is really a bunch of seperate stories.

What's the layout?? It seemed like the first 13 eps (1st season) are a single self-contained story. Is that true? Do the other stories tie in at all? How long are the other stories? Is it more like Twelve Kingdoms, where it's creating a world, and they tell different stories, but past characters appear in current stories? Or are they truley completely seperate? And finally, can I simply watch the first season and have a sense of closure?

Thanks. Just curious about this show.
Very Happy

The first 13 eps take place during fuedal Japan and then next 13 eps take place in modern day. The second half of the show has the same characters as the first half. I can't really say much more without giving anything away, but they do tie in together. Sorry if I said too much for some people.

Well... you probably could if you wanted to. The first and second arcs do tie into each other though. The special arc (eps 25 & 26) is expendable IMO. Unless, of course, you like philosophical babble in which case you might find ep 26 interesting.

Although the second volume is still a few days from its R1 release I must say the artwork in Otogi Zoshi is amazing. There is a high contrast shading which works really well with a unique "coarse" look to the backgrounds. Visually it is what I would expect from IG. I noticed on the other thread people were really split with the BGM, so I will have to say I side with those who really like the music.

First off, I enjoyed the animation. Its a much more realistic style. A nice change from spikey hair and giant eyes. In the first arc there's a nice mix of action/adventure and I thought the character relationships fairly interesting. I'm kind of a history junkie too so I liked the historical aspects of it.

The second arc is more mystery/supernatural in present day. I personally didn't find it as good as the first arc, but it had enough mystery to keep me watching and see how it turns out.

Overall I would recommend it. Not the best out there, but still good IMO

The second DVD also has the group round table extra as well as that university guy commenting on the new batch of episodes. Once again, with all of the extras it is released on two DVDs!
