Well, I've finally bought all the licensed Sakura Wars DVDs (TV series, the Movie, Sumire OVA, and Ecole de Paris OVAs) minus the OVA collection, which I'm still trying to get ahold of as the set, not the seperate disks, for a lower price than I've seen.
I also found subs for all the non-licensed OVAs (Le Nouveau Paris OVA and New York NY OVA) and I also have the game So Long, My Love. Now, I want to start watching them, but just trying to figure out the order to watch them in! I'm assuming the Paris and New York series and seperate to the original series, so maybe don't fit in the time line (or do they?) If I watch without the OVA set I don't own yet, would I miss out on anything, or is it perhaps an alternate take? Play the game first, or watch the NY OVAs? Anyhow, I have no idea, so hopefully someone here can help explain what order to watch/play it in^^ |

@Sheleigha:
From this encyclopedia entry, it would appear that the manga Sakura Taisen is canon; so you may want to read that first.
Are you thoroughly confused yet? ![]() |

This is what I get for skimming through the encyclopedia instead of looking at the top >_> I knew already how the top puts everything in order, but I must be tired, since all I did was looking at the summaries to see if it had any clues....
Well, the list above certainly simplifies it, so it's a good reference^^ Good to know the TV series IS an alternate telling, so I can start with that and just watch the OVA series later. What about the New York OVA and So Long, My Love the game? Anyone know which to watch/play first? |

It's seems too late now, but as friendly advice, avoid most of them unless you're a huge fan of the game(s?), which I'm not. I wouldn't bother with any of them other than Sakura Wars (TV). That's really the only one that tries hard.
but if you're looking to complete your collection, this might help. |

Play the game first as the OVA takes place after it. |

Well, it's all a matter of opinion and I may even end up enjoying it. Besides, I don't import games, so this is option B with trying to get the story. Not a bad price on the OVA there, usually I see it for more. However, I'd have to email the seller. I HATE it when they don't specify anything about it, so it creates a risk of ending up with a bootleg, or just some disks in a generic case etc.
Perfect! I figured one would be after the other. |

The TV show works fairly well as standalone, but the OVAs and movie assume you have been playing the games. So if you can't play untranslated Japanese games, I would recommend starting with the TV show. Then, if you want more, you can follow up with OVAs and movie, in the order already described. Of these latter, I think that the second batch of OVAs is best, as it is a collection of self-contained side-stories to the first two games. I haven't seen the second Paris OVA or the New York OVA, however.
And I have to resume playing the Sakura Wars V game sometime. |

I was wondering about this myself. I own all of the OVA's (that were licensed), the movie, and the TV series on DVD. I figured the movie was a stand alone deal yet I was wondering where the OVA's came in. It was really confusing. x.x
I'll keep this guide in check when I get around to watching the series. Thanks everyone for making this clearer for those who aren't familiar with this series. ![]() |

hmm good anime for its time. Well maybe not, but as a kid I enjoyed it. Yeah good times. Innocent times. The days when you would watch anything for fun and that was all that matters. Now we have tastes and prejudgments.

I miss those times... However, now I try and do a little self workout program during anime, and those types seem to be the best with it: if it's not super amazing, it gives you something to focus on so time passes quicker, gives you the 20ish minutes a day you need, and you aren't missing anything too vital if you don't catch 100% of it. Plus, you multitask! ![]() Whether Sakura Wars will be on of those shows, we'll see... |
