It wasn't bad, though inferior to the game in almost every aspect.

I thought this was a great re-imagining of the game it was a lot of fun and I felt it did a great job of balancing things out. I am surprised that the reviewer like the second opening much more then the first, me and I think many others prefer the first one. after all the first one is the one that Christiana Vee fan dubbed and got over 50,000 views. anyway this was a good review for the anime and pretty fair. I didn't think that the opening episodes had as many problems as the reviewer say but I watched them years ago so.

“Ano Kaze ni Notte” is a closer though just fyi I am sure you knew this though.

[EDIT: The last point concerned a typo in the original version of the review that has since been corrected. - Key]

Kanashimi Rensa was way, way, waaaaay better than Asu e no Kizuna.

Also, I don't see how the amount of views on a fandub have to do with anything at all.

"At essence the story is primarily a military adventure tale flavored with a central love triangle involving Alicia, Faldio, and Welkin and a couple of peripheral fledgling romances." -- From the Review

Wait, what? A love triangle? Really? That's just... well, in the game there was no such thing. Faldio and Welkin are friends from their academy days, and Alicia was a member of a city watch. Faldio never showed any signs of having a thing for Alicia, and vice versa. The Alicia-Welkin match was something that developed throughout the game, and was an important factor in it (especially near the end). Turning it into a love triangle just doesn't sit well with me.

If an English dub for this series came out, it might impel me to watch it, at least once. The dub in the game was well done, IMO. And the game itself is one of my favorites. But I don't expect this anime will ever get dubbed or released here (as physical media).

And yes, I thought that the Darcen are stand-ins for the Jews (and/or perhaps the Gypsies).

Yeah, the love triangle BS was one of the worst parts of the anime.

I could bring up many points but I doubt people want to see us fighting over it. and if you can't see the previous point then obviously you will ignore anything else I will say even if it is true.

The point is you seem to think that because Christina Vee did a fandub of the song, that has a decent (though hardly amazing) number of youtube views, it says something objective about the quality of the song in question. Which is of course ridiculous.

Considering that most people who watched the show will never hear that fandub of the song, the connection is tenuous at best.

I think I would have liked this series more if I hadn't played the game first. The way the whole spoiler[racism situation between Rosy and Isara played out ] was just terrible compared to the game.

How was it handled differently in the game, then? I've only ever read summaries of the game, not played it.

I can't contrast the game to the anime, as I haven't seen the anime and don't know how it handled this, but in the game...

spoiler[Rosie was really rough on Isara at first as she blamed the Darcsen for the death of her parents. While most of the squad didn't like Darcsens much at all, Rosie was especially vocal about it, and resolutely refused to soften her stance for quite a while. It was only, IIRC, when they conducted the raid into the Fouzen and she saw the Darcsen labor camp, that her opinions began to change. When Isara was killed by a sniper, Rosie composed and sang a song at her funeral, and became a strong advocate to end the bigotry against the Darcsen.]

I thought it was a strong and well-executed sub-plot in the game.

Why are we getting this review now? This series aired in 2009 and was never relesaed as a physical copy.

Its hard to describe, but while the game and the anime did the same thing, when you just sit down and describe it, it wasn't executed nearly as well in the anime.

Because it's only relatively recently that it was released in some form here in the west, subbed through Crackle.
