I think this is the direction anime should go to, i mean there's too much moe/cute girl stuff out there. Japanese animators/storytellers should make anime that focus on the current world/japanese issues . I think this kind of material would grab general attention. i do not wish to see more cute girl anime forever.

Anime companies are not charities after all and the animators need to feed themselves. It is only natural and reasonable for the companies to produce what the market demands. Moe may be a minority here, but like it or not, you have to recognize that it is still the major cash cow in the anime industry; and this won't be changed at least in the near future. Anyway personally speaking I don't mind the cute and fluffy stuff around. But I also very much look forward to the film. Hopefully the staff will be able to secure enough funding. |

wish it wasn't the holiday season right now so i could consider this more deeply (i've already strapped myself too tightly).
sounds like a great idea, both the anime itself and the funding method. i'd love to see more artists trying this -- looking for fans to fund interesting and more creative projects. |

Dora, i meant half of my comment as a personal view. But i do agree that since demands requires, they give what the people want. But is just a little sad that there's hundreds of animators out there (and there's a lot of potential) that are not willing to create something that would be of general attention. It is because of the ones that do stand to the challenge (miyazaki, shinkai, kon, etc) that i even know their names. As for funding i think if you have creativity/talent then it come to light, if not now, then it will in the future. ps i'm poor :c but i'll see if i can give somethin' |

Wow, ask the Internets for help -- reaching thousands on this site alone -- and a month later a total of twelve people have chipped in? That's got to be discouraging.
Keep in mind that if they don't reach their target before January, any money you pledge is returned to you (At the current rate, they won't get a cent). Even a few more $5 donations would probably be an encouragement to them. Further reading: Shin Dong-hyuk says that he was tortured and that he saw his mother hanged and his brother shot to death.
