Just my theory - it's a fascinating look into the human psychology, and we all think we could resist the temptation, or outsmart everyone else.

I didn't like the movie too much, because it relied too much on spoiler[sneaky tactics in lieu of psychological manipulation much of the time.]

Interesting how the plot resolves the conflicts. Also, there's money involved (better then point systems).

It's a combination of things.

1. The games themselves are interesting, although sometimes tricky to understand. They also offer an interesting look into psychology.

2. The unpredictability of the series. You know that Nao and company are probably going to win, but you don't know how, and you have absolutely no idea of what type of game they're going to be playing next. It's intoxicating.

3. Nao herself is pretty sympathetic, and the same can be said for Akiyama.

I might add that it's fun to speculate on the motive of the Liar Game Company. spoiler[I personally think that they're doing an empirical test of the "Tit for Tat" strategy in games theory. One of the things that has shown up in games theory is that you can overcome the Prisoners' Dilemma and other such situations if you play the game repeatedly and have the opportunity to punish the other actors for defection. I think the Liar Game Company is testing that, by putting people in a number of different games with differing incentives to "cheat", and then running them through a whole bunch of times on each game to see how it comes out.

Of course, there are probably layers to the game as well, with them also wanting to make money in the process.
]

EDIT: I might add, this is a series that would benefit immensely from a legal online streaming version. The series has had a big problem with "bottlenecks" in terms of translators/scanlators.
