Why does Johnny Yong Bosch keep getting cast as bad guys? I liked him so much better when he was playing teenage boys and nice-guy types like Vash. :/ I just don't think he can pull off evil.

Michelle Ruff should make an excellent Anri, though! Never heard of Bryce Papenbrook.

I'm excited enough about Crispin Freeman as Shizuo that I'll be watching it no matter what, though.

Not too sure about Michelle Ruff as Anri, but Johnny Young Bosch as Izaya seems like a good match. I could see his Lelouch voice fitting him.

Johnny Yong Bosch did voiced a few villanious roles in the past (Sasori from Naruto Shippuden and Clair from Heat Guy J). But he is normally typecast into those "hot-blooded heroes" (Ichigo Kurosaki) or a smooth-talking bishonen (Itsuki Koizumi). Although I will not be surprised that they will use his normal vocal range for Izaya. I'm hoping he can do some more extraordinary like high-pitched Jun Watarase from Happiness! or something deep and gruffy like Ioryogi from Kobato.

By the way, Bryce Papenbrook is one of the newer guys, best known for voicing Zidane Tribal from Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

EDIT: By the way, I was celebrating like crazy when I heard about this news about Johnny Yong Bosch as Izaya yesterday to the point of trolling my archnemesis at his Formspring account. Doesn't matter, since he's a douchebag anyways.

He's not THAT new of a VA; he had a couple of main roles before.

You all know that he's the son of Bob Paprenbrook a great man with a widen roles. He died in March of 2006, he was great in his talent and I sure his son will do more better than him. Plus he's a very good in his roles and I hope Durarara may be on National T.V. next year, If the dub succeeds well and sales.

Whenever I see JYB I keep thinking Zuko but it does seem like he fits the roles. The FB page says they're going to announce even more cast at NYAF so I can't wait for then!

I'm still most excited about Crispin Freeman being cast as Shizuo. It'd be hard to go wrong after that! Wink

So Mr. Lelouch is going to be Izaya? I can see this working.

IDK why I can't remember who Michelle Ruff is, and i've never heard of Price.

So we got...

Kari Walgren as Celty
Johnny Yong Bosh as Izaya

Come on, Aniplex. Keep the big time VA's coming.

I vaguely remember Papenbrook from Noein (pretty good, even though I didn't like the dub as a whole), but he should make for an interesting fit as Masaomi (hope he can get his exuberant mannerisms down without being too grating). Ruff as Anri is a perfect choice, while Bosch as Izaya is a great piece of casting in of itself. Given how well he's done with villain roles of late (Code Geass' Lelouch and especially Naruto Shippuden's Sasori), he'll probably chew scenery and steal the show. Really good cast selection, so far.

On another note, the novel illustrator's first name is "Suzuhito", not Kazuhito".

Bryce Papenbrook sure seems to be coming into his own lately. Looks like talent runs in that family.

Is Aniplex going to be distributing the DVDs themselves, or will they subcontract with another company (RightStuf, Universal, Bandai, Warner Bros., etc.) for that?

I was just about to pose the very same question.

The encyclopedia only lists Beez as the UK distributor, so I can't help but wonder who will be the NA distributor.

I'm kinda wondering why this is under interest and not news. Seeing as it is directly related to the industry, I'd figure that classifies it as news.
