Zero no Tsukaima: Futatsuki no Kishi (Season 2)
First thing that caught my interest was the OP, which seemed like some sort of a techno remix of the OP of the first series, and actually sounded kind of better this way. The series itself has changed direction, spoiler[now mainly focusing on action since the war from the first series still rages on. Louise and Saitou's daily relationship seemed to have improved considerably (guess his efforts weren't for naught), although Louise still sics the whip and the dog comparisons (sometimes I really wish she'd stop and just get along with him) , and even tricks Saito into wearing this magical pair of glasses that beeps and flashes every time he thinks dirty thoughts (and unfortunately for him, that was roughly once every minute or so). Anyway, although the action didn't work out all that well IMO in the first series (felt too sidetracked), it could potentially really work out this time, especially seeing as how they're dedicating all 13 episodes to the main plotline, and episode 2 was already full of tricks, angst, and blind devotion like never before.] Anyway, after 2 episodes, I have high hopes for this series, and even though it goes a completely different direction from the first season, I'm looking forward to the next episode and hopefully the entire rest of the series. |

As of episode 5, the series is pretty much self-destructing and tearing apart any merits the first season had.
spoiler[Saito becomes extremely perverted all of a sudden for no good reason, and it becomes even more pronounced after Ep 3, and while it was tolerable at first and didn't seem to be a huge distraction, now it's ruining the show. Developments between Saito and Louise do occur, but they do absolutely NOTHING and their relationship stays exactly the same after each intimate moment - like Master and dog. Speaking of intimate relationships, the kissing scene between Saito and Louise toward the end of Ep 4 was amazingly lame and painful to watch (you know something's wrong when the first thing that comes to mind is "Haha, I wonder if Rie Kugimiya is capable of voicing H-anime!") It's become a silly nonsensical harem fest - Siesta is no longer the likeable kind maid she once was, her personality took a dive as she, for completely nonsensical reasons, suddenly becomes extremely jealous and lies and cheats to get Saito split from Louise. While Louise's second-eldest sister is alright (a really silly way to refer to her by the way), her eldest sister is really annoying with a really hollow predictable unlikeable personality, and her parents are the stereotypical kind of strict rich folk that you wouldn't like if you met on the street. Everyone now has some sort of preoccupation with breast size (and that apparently now is the most important trait in a girl ever), and Saito's pervertedness is over-the-top and uncalled for, and completely destroys his character. Most of the others aren't acting much better, Henrietta's complete and utter stupidity from Ep 2 coming to mind.] |

I've been enjoying season 2, and haven't noticed a disconnect form season 1 at all. Saito's always been a bit of a perv, going after the various local hotties whenver possible, and I don't think that's increased in this season. He certainly isn't in the realm of an Ataru or Lupin.
I also like that, for all their "one step forwards, two step backs", they do seem to be forming an actual relationship in there. It's better than most passive/agressive anime relationships get. |

I'll have to agree with frentymon. The character's personalities seem to have taken a turn on the wrong street and drove straight into a ditch. I was expecting more for season 2 but guess not. It went to good then degraded to stupid. It's like the character's had went back to that level in the first season but seems to be much lower than that now.

Hey I'm not sure if you guys actually dropped the second season but I thought I'd stick my two cents in just for the sake of it..
The start of season two was a bit rocky because I thought things would have developed between Louise and Saito a bit more than they did (spoiler[he's not sleeping on the floor anymore at least] >.>). But the last couple of episodes have been right back on track, both in terms of the characters and the plot itself. Really to watch this and gain the most enjoyment out of it, you have to split up the comedy and what actually happens into two different categories (by ep 5 I too was going to give up nearly, because I just got sick of Louise screeching 'INUUU' all the time - particularly the ED annoyed me). But I've stuck with it so far and episodes 8 and 9 turned out to be awesome so I'm glad I didn't stop. I really liked the first season though, thats why I didn't quit; I think the second season is starting to look up too. What I mean about splitting it up though is like the over-the-top beating stuff I just see as a comic addition to the anime (even if its getting old) because you see an equally large amount of the time that Louise really does care about him. (Cue end of episode 9) She's just very jealousspoiler[, and what with the way Siesta is atm I'm not really so surprised.] spoiler[About the only thing I don't really like about season 2 is that Siesta's character is no longer so innocent... actually I've come to really not like the way she lies to Louise, just because it ends up getting Saito into more trouble than he would have otherwise been in. Saito was always a perv btw, Louise just cares more now.] |

Siesta's loss of innocence must have come with the bigger breast size.
![]() I tell you, plastic surgery in a magic world has its price. I think I'm dropping this season even though I always kind of liked the silliness Harry Potter-parody of the anime. Saito might have been sort of a smartass perv in the first season -- though face it most boys his age don't really know how to act if Kirche pushed her melons on him like that; they either jump at her or get awkward like Saito did -- but the second season he gets so much worse it's ridiculous. The magic glass gag works, but after that it's suddenly his primary motivation in life. WTF? What about going home? Protect Louise? Her majesty the now-also-big-breasted queen (It must have come with station)? Who's that annoying captain with a backstory and what does she do? Oh, and don't go near novel fans. Them moonspeak translators are a rabid bunch :-/ P.S. I only watched to around episode 5 or 6. Does it get better? |

Thats around when it starts to get better yes. spoiler[The captain with the backstory is pretty much what is coming up. However, you're going to have to live with Saito still being a perv for at least 1 more episode >.> I'm sticking with it anyway because I want to see how its going to end, but I agree I don't like how suddenly everyone acquired breasts and the show became more about Saito making Louise jealous than anything else.] If episodes 8 and 9 are any indication of what the show will continue to be like then I'd be happy, and its probably at least worth watching up til there.

Hmm. Sounds like 8 and 9 might be better episodes I might not want to miss. Very well, I'll catch up to the rest.
Thanks for commenting by the way. : ) |

I'm still watching, but there isn't much to talk about. The series is at its best when its being silly and fanservicey. The plot is mediocre at best and its done poorly. The plot is only entertaining when its laughably bad. And yes, that includes 8 and 9. But at least they surprised me when they spoiler[offed a particular character] They were a slight improvement over what we got in the first season, but still less than good.

Update:
Finished watching 8, 9, and 10. My opinion is, yeah finally the stupid subplot has ended. spoiler[I've seen Mr. Colbert's true identity a mile away and wasn't surprised at all at the moment, though his being offed kind of surprised me a bit. And wtf was Saito and Louise doing watching that idiot b*tch threatening to kill him? I was half expecting Saito to pull out Derf and smash Anies/Agnes' sword and save the day the whole time. It did not happen. Bullsh*t. And the villain is also really generic.] I actually liked the pacifist teacher, he seems slightly deeper than the rest of the cast and if handled properly could've been quite an effective character, but of course the series fails at drama so yeah. Episode 10 was better. Filler-ish it may be but at least Saito isn't on Makoto mode and Louise kept her Tsun-Tsun side in check. And since I'm this far I might as well finish it, oh well. |

I guess it depends on what your own personal tastes are. I like it, but then again I liked Eramentar Gerad and a lot of people would not agree with my opinion of that. The plot isn't so much story-based as character relation-based, which I guess is kind of where the issue lies with a lot of people because the comedy is also character relation-based, but in seemingly the opposite direction. I suppose I just like the change from all the serious anime I've been watching lately (Darker than Black, Death Note, etc). No one's opinion is gospel. But I like it.

Well, the first season was almost complete garbage for me. I hate thin characters & totally see-through plot, & I'm usually too bored to laugh at how awful a show is. It's sad that season 2 is going down the drain, too, but maybe if I need to be distracted from something else depressing I'll watch it.

Why? Just...why? Is this second series really as bad as it sounds? I sort of enjoyed the first with the whole real world tech in a magic world angle. Does that play any real role in this series? Or is it really just a breast fest? |

The artwork may not have been fantastic, the voiceacting was terrible in my opinion, but it was a nice (albeit simple) story. As for series two of Zero no Tsukaima: Okay after that last episode, not even I'm going to stick up for it. They completely changed the roles of the characters for the last episode, then threw them in completely the opposite direction at the very end. And seriously, the very end.... what the hell was the writer thinking??? "Hrm how can we make this so that we can tag on another season". I probably won't be watching it... Seriously after that mini-plot with the soldier-chick it started to sag again but that last episode was the clincher. I'm really annoyed. ![]() |

I actually really enjoyed the last episode, but overall I thought this season failed to deliver on the momentum of the first. I didn't even consider that the series was starting to wrap up until the last episode was posted with "end" in the filename. It just came out of nowhere. There really was no plot to this season, it just ended. Also, Lousies sisters never clicked for me, they were just around and annoying the entire time.
