Studio Ghibli has created many inspiring films and introduced a lot of viewers into the world of anime. Their work is known worldwide and appreciated by people everywhere. Spirited Away won an Oscar, Totoro plushies are being sold in all toy stores, even build-a-bear, and Nausicaa is one of the best reviewed anime's of all time.
Of course, with so many films to choose from, their has to be a favorite. Mine would be Whisper of the Heart, because it's so real and down to earth. It's a true slice of life, romantic story that tells itself well, without any bumps in plot or lapses of logic.
What's your guys' favorite Ghibli movie?

Nausicaa or Castle in the Sky. Any of those 2, why?
Well, when u dont resort to lame over the top romance/drama and still pull off an amazing story, you just know its a film gem.
not that the rest of their movies r bad but those get me going, y'know?

Most of the Ghibli films don't really impress me all that much. They're usually entertaining, but nothing too exceptional. However, I think Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke break away from that and are exceptional. If I had to say why, it's probably because they're more violent and mature. I just don't enjoy family oriented programing all that much. The rest of them were upper mid-range titles (Very Good, Good, Decent).

Spirited Away. Who could not root for Chihiro?
I defy anyone to find any flaw in the production at any level or any aspect. The character designs, the backgrounds, the action, the voices and the incredible music. Even the Disney dub is fantastic.
I conclude that anyone who is "not impressed" just simply doesn't know what they are looking at.

Or they're just not entertained enough by stories with children as the main characters, because with it comes plot armor, certain rules, and.predictability. Also the fantasy genre isn't really my favorite either unless it's combined with action.

ugg, thats a hard one, I would say its a TIE between KiKi's & Naussica. I found both of those films highly enjoyable. Can't really say why, somthing just clicked with me when I watched them. and they both had really nice background art/ scenary as well.

Fair enough, but I draw a distinction between "not entertained," and "not impressed."

Those are my two favorites also. I'm happy to say that Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is my most favorite though. It had such an epic delivery and a rewatchability value that tops all other movies ever made (animated or not). Kiki's Delivery Service is for me just a fun movie that's less serious than his other ones, and has such great artwork and character development that it deserves to be among one of the greatest also. My 3rd favorite Ghibli film is actually a non-Hayao Miyazaki film and that one would be Only Yesterday (Omohide Poro Poro).

Kiki's Delivery Service is not just my favorite Studio Ghibli film but my favorite film period. I love it's gorgeous art and mellow feel. I also really like Whisper of the Heart (It's sooo sweet! And it makes me want to be a librarian.), Howl's Moving Castle (I love the story.), and Only Yesterday (I've been feeling a lot like Taeko lately).
I've liked them all, really. I don't think Studio Ghibli is capable of making a bad movie.

Porco Rosso is probably mine -- it's pretty much a transitional work between Miyazaki's period of the mid to late 80s, and everything he's done from Princess Mononoke onwards. It has the best of both worlds, with the whimsy of the former period matched well with the reflection of the latter (this is also reflected in the final volumes of Nausicaa).
I really need to see Only Yesterday again, as that would either be number two, or possibly even eclipse Porco...

As if "mature" works aimed at teenagers and adults are somehow above this!
You seriously should read Tolkien's "On Fairy Stories."

My favorite has always been Laputa Castle in the Sky. I love the adventure aspects, the music, and the Dora clan. But more than anything, I love the robots. I have a coldcast dice calendar of the gardening robot on my desk right now.
Second would be Nausicaa. The final scene of her hat at the end of the ending credits chokes me up every time.

Even though it's steeped in Japanese imagery, and I am not Japanese, Spirited Away somehow invokes these strange feelings of nostalgia, not for things I experienced in real life, but for dreams, as a child. It's almost like Miyazaki is able to tap into my mind at times, because I get the same vague sense of "I've been there" from Castle of Cagliostro (a Miyazaki film, but not Ghibli).
In short, Miyazaki is a psychic, and we should all fear him.
