Freedom is still alive in this world. It's good to know that the Committee could see that this bill was perfunctory and harmful towards freedom of speech in artists. A severe limit on artistic expression has been averted.

Was the issue whether or not such depictions could be sold to minors? I had thought the point of the bill was to decide whether or not its existence was to be determined as criminal.

From my understanding (which may be limited) it was a 2-in-1 kind of deal; both the depiction of nude minors and the selling of sexually explicit materials to minors were included in the bill, I think. If anybody else has more detailed info, please clarify for this dude.

Took the word right out of my mouth, comrade.

Again, the bill is not being characterized by either side as pro-feminist. If anything, the three parties opposing the bill are characterized as socially liberal.

"I just don't understand this government. First, they want to help the anime and manga business expand globally. Now they want to hinder those very revenues. Jeez. Konota-chan's better at this stuff than I am.", said Kagami in a press statement just 15 minutes ago.

Konota was sought for her opinion, but stated she had to "get what she can before September" as she rushed off.

You go, girl.

WTF does this have to do with feminism? Talk about creating shadows to box. Feminists have better things to concern themself with like how most women can't even find jobs in the Japanese business world other than through the demeaning "office lady" servant role. They're not cocncerned with sexy cartoons watched by male virgins. I agree with what was said about the liberal segment being pro-free speech if anything.

It was supposed to be about whether or not such material could be sold to minors, but it also introduced the vague legal term "nonexistent youth" in its language, which was so vague not only it could be prone to double standards, but could have very well be used to ban anything that offends concerned citizens' virgin eyes.

Besides, adult material is already restricted, so the "protect the children" cry seems more like a feeble excuse to either advance censorship or just create another layer of bureaucracy to extort creators and publishers (or both).

Got Tired, Discussing this subject truly is impossible, as some one said, there is no side that is truly good, one side makes you look like a jerk while the other a pedophile.

It is true, that I might not understood many things concerning the bill.
It is just it's pretty disgusting to find nowadays things like Kiss x Sis.

That's about it.

So sad, that "child porn" is considered as "freedom"
Most freedom fighters must be rolling in the graves.

This makes me be ashamed of liking anime even, it's really sad that most politicians get paid by big corporations, is this what you really you people call freedom? how sad.

Really a bad day in history. And a disgusting one too

This law was bullshit and had nothing to do with CP. Most of Utena's promotion art and probably even segments of the anime and film would be banned in this case, btw. Deleting freedom of speech is a freaking slipperly slope.

I would prefer some sort of self-regulation from the industry, as unlikely as it might seem at the moment, rather than trying to suddenly enforce a vague law that could cause far too many unintended consequences in the name of an ostensibly worthy goal.

The governing party of Japan changed from the LDP to the DPJ. LDP is the party that supports the Youth Bill as well as exporting anime/manga under ex-Prime Minister Taro Aso. I guess kinda like ex-NYC Mayor Guiliani wanting to promote Times Square but cleaning it up to be family-friendly.

Hahahahaha, not the Japanese Parliament. They haven't even approved the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction yet. It takes them awhile to do anything, partly because they have a new PM seemingly every year. Laughing
