Now to wait until the TV series gets licensed. I hope FUNimation gets this one so I can hear the dubbed songs (and the possibility of similar DVD releases like Fruits Basket).

This is fantastic news, providing Viz didn't also get the anime series. Viz manga licenses I can deal with...no problems there. Viz anime licenses I have a few issues with, especially when they get longer series like this one.

Well, for one, they have this thing about putting three episodes to a disc at full MSRP in the majority of their releases, even if the series is more than 100 episodes in length. Most companies now seldom dip below four episodes per disc, and when companies like FUNimation do it, they often sell those discs for less than the standard MSRP (around $20). On top of that, I'm getting really weary of Ocean Studios' dubbing; while not the only culprits, their inability to properly pronounce foreign terms and overuse of certain voice actors is becoming quite grating to me. And speaking of foreign terms, they also have this thing about taking certain...liberties with those. They'll either get too literal with the translation, or they'll make certain alterations (see Inu-Yasha's long list of attack names, or even their handling of certain manga properties like Naruto) that often just sound silly.

Ditto. The only reason Viz uses them 100% (as well as companies like Hasbro and Lego and King Features Syndicate) is because it's cheaper than paying American actors.

Hey, there are times Viz used Filipinos and student VAs for their dubs.

Let's just hope someone like Geneon or ADV or Bandai (doubtful) will get the anime license. I LOVE this series (this is one series that is capable of making a stoic, grown man cry) and have been waiting for it to be licensed for quite a while. I only hope they don't try to create dub versions of Mitsuki's songs. Her voice is absolutely GORGEOUS (props to her voice actress/jpop singer, Myco (sp?)). I mean, dubbing is one thing, but dubbing the original soundtrack songs just goes too far, IMO.

Amen to all that. Full Moon Wo Sagashite deserves the best treatment possible. So far, the best shojo anime dub I've heard is Fruits Basket, so hopefully FUNi will get it...and resist the evil temptation to dub the songs. Hopefully whoever gets the show will also promote the living daylights out of it.

Um....american's don't do dubs all too well either. Full Moon wo Sagashite dub will be hilarious. I hope they robotech it. That would be the best. In the end, I'll still only watch it seriously with the Japanese audio, so no skin off my back.
holy crap...I want 4kids to get the dub license. That would make my day. Ofcourse the original dvds would have to be released by a real company =P otherwise I'd be more sad than fulfilled.

i LIKED the dubbing of Fruits Basket songs....it was hell lot better than Kiddy Grade....and Funimation did DAMM good job dubbing Fruits Basket, Kiddy Grade, and Fullmetal Alchemist....looking forward to Gunslinger Girl and Burst Angels (Bakuretsu Tenshi).....
yeah...Viz is good for mangas....like Tokyopop....suck at dubbing anime.....
PLEASE let someone like ADV or Funimation pick up the TV series....they do far better job dubbing than Viz....
one of those series that just touches your heart and characters that you can't forget....one of my top favorite series ever...

SUPERB NEWS desu!!!
2005 is definitely the marathon year of licenses.
I'm certainly looking forward to hearing Mitsuki voice.
Myco (a.k.a. Changin' My Life) had a good voice for Mitsuki regulat speech, but for the songs it's okay, but sounds rather deep to me, however the songs sound marvellous nonetheless!
I am certainly most looking forward to the songs they will put on English version.
But since that Viz had obtained the license, I won't be expecting my favorite seiyuu in the cast, i.e. those folks who have dubbed many anime licensed by Bandai Ent. and Geneon.
