I've just bought a new Blu-ray player and I'm looking to round out my new Blu-ray collection with some of my favorite animes. I've got Akira and it looks dynamite in high def (though, not perfect. There was a bit of grain and noise when blacks were thick on the screen). Looking forward to grabbing Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (and maybe Innocence) soon to build on that.
But, one of my favorite anime films of all time is of course Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise and as luck would have it, it has a Blu-ray release through Honneamise. But its one of their 'Holy S-Word, that's expensive!' releases, so the decision to upgrade is a bit of a struggle. I have the previous Manga Entertainment DVD release, with an Anamorphic transfer. It looks... okay on an HD TV. My question is, has the film been further cleaned up for its HD debut? Is the picture quality worth the price on Blu-ray or is it merely an up-convert of its latest 'Digital Enhancement' from the previous DVD release. |

Here's a review.
Also, you can get GitS 2.0 on BD for $10.99 on Amazon right now. |

The Manga Ent. disc of Honneamise is pretty awful for video, so if cost isn't a big issue, it's more than worth it to upgrade. |
