The whole light novel movement seems to have been a massive failure with maybe two or three success stories. They are still releasing Boogiepop Phantom, so I guess the first three did well enough (who knows if the new ones will), but pretty much everything else from any publisher failed to make it past volume three (if even that far).

the haruhi light-novel licence is with little brown¥ press,so seven seas has nothing to do with the haruhi ln releases!

Ah, this is exactly why I came to this subforum... wanted to learn more about this. I've been waiting for the ZnT light novels from Seven Seas... but now I'm worried they'll ever get released... Same with the SnS light novels from Viz... hasn't been a new one in almost a year...

so I guess this mean nothing is canceled, just having release date issues, and all the light novels can be expected to be released at some point? Its just they went TBA suddenly and nothing at all was mentioned for a long time which seemed strange.

but hopefully if the haruhi novels sell well enough it might get more anime fans into reading more light novels, and as a knock on effect improve seven seas' sales as a result.
of course it also depends on if theres still enough of a fanbase for haruhi [series 2 when exactly?] for it to work.

Does anyone know/heard about what's happening with the 3rd vol of Ballad of a Shinigami? It was supposed to be released on 10/28/08 and has since gone TBA. Even with possible cancellations, I had hoped that Seven Seas would have at least finish the series.

Every light novel they have has pretty much been cancelled. The only hope for light novels in general is that Haruhi will spark an interest in them.
