I must disagree about the English dub of Gundam 00. It's really all over the place, and one of Ocean's worst in years. Voice actors sound too old or too young, half-asleep, are overused as extras, or just plain painful to the ear to listen to, like the voice for Sergei. Even vets like Brad Swaille and Scott McNeil miss the mark more often than not. It's really like they phoned it in half the time in the English version of this program.
I guess after a remarkably good Death Note dub, they decided they could take it easy. It sounds a lot more like a terrible Blue Water dub (which, at last count, is all of them). |

Oh boy, I was really hopping Ocean would mix up some of the in-mission dialog. Fidelity didn't always need to be upheld, in this case. Oh well. I think you're right on the money in describing how this first part of the series plays out; the episodes are enjoyable individually, but start to become repetitive and lack emotional depth. It's fortunate that things turn around in the second part, as the main story gets underway (what a coincidence). Personally though, I liked Setsuna from the start of 00. Maybe I just found it refreshing to follow a protagonist who is emotionally stable and an accomplished pilot from the get-go. |

I knew it, I knew it. I was going to send penguintruth a PM to ask him whether or not he was going to challenge Mr. Kimlinger on the dub, but low and behold he's already here. Articles and reviews of anything Gundam go together with penguintruth go together like ... like a penguin to water.

Every time I say, "I'm tired of lecturing on/ talking about my opinions of Gundam" I end up coming back to it, regardless. |

i really enjoyed 00. watched it weekly. but ill wait on the dvd release. hoping for blurays

Gee, someone's in a bad mood.
Something wrong with manga-ka making some extra cash on character designs, particularly when her "For Your Eyes" artbook included Gundam Seed (Destiny?) art? Gundam makers seem to have discovered they can snag talent that are fans of the series. More brain than heart? It's Gundam. The only reason for it to exist is fanservice for fans of mechs, bishies, & battle scenes. I actually am so reminded of Wing, it's not funny. I thought they were aiming to make Setsuna as annoyingly pissy as Heero. The dub isn't bad, though it is rather phoned in as though they've done this one too many times.I ended up watching large pieces in Japanese since we've seen the dub on tv & we get Shinichiro Miki |

That's a really good description, in my opinion. I haven't been keeping up with season 2 on Syfy, but my main reason for wanting to continue watching the show is to see what kind of message it ultimately gives regarding the question of if war can be ended with force. |

I know the characters seem like the have no identity but that was on purpose towards the end of this season and next season it becomes more character focused

I more or less agree with a lot of this review. However, I found the whole premise of Celestial Being just too silly and impossible that it was tough to really enjoy any degree of serous political commentary. Now maybe if they were an underfunded, under-armed little group that by some chance had obtained the means to make some degree of impact but still had to fight like hell to achieve their goals, it would have been reasonable (and interesting). As it was it just seemed so silly. That's the other thing too though. It could at least have been a better action series if CB wasn't so overpowered. It seems too often like they're never really in danger.

You found it hard to believe that some eccentric scientist thought ahead 200 years and set up all sorts of giant robots and equipment with experimental solar engines to take care of problems that far into the future? Well, some people are just natural skeptics, I guess! |

Yeah, that's the trouble with fiction. It can be terribly outlandish and untrue 
I am so thankful that I seem to be so easygoing regarding dubs. I have no problem with it whatsoever. I thoroughly enjoyed the tv broadcast, so watching these uncut DVDs was especially enjoyable. No commercials!

Yes. Obviously he has issues, what with having spoiler[killed his own parents,] but he's able to put that aside and function well as a pilot. Even after spoiler[being devastated by Lockon's death,] he's able to recompose himself quickly and spoiler[finish the fight against Alejandro.] |
