"a program produced for the youth of China, and animation to raise wholesome minds and teach a noble view of life."

This gives me shivers, being a WWII buff and knowing something of the current economic and political dynamics on the planet.

That road shot is so obvious (as are others), but I chuckled at them putting long skirts on the girls.

Haven't seen 5cm per second...but judging from your comment I can tell which ones are fake (though it was pretty obvious -_-). That said, it seems the Chinese are going for the smoggy look for their cities.

I'm reading through long discussions; Chinese netizens have been criticizing this title heavily: "how can you teach ethics while cheating?! Shameless."

However, there are some Chinese animators (not working on this project) feel sad but not surprising: they want to be creative and produce original series, but the boss wants you to complete a series with shortest time and lowest budget possible or you get fired. Then the boss uses this to procure government funding approved by government officials who don't watch animation. Rolling Eyes

I had no idea Tokyo Tower was in China.

It's kinda funny, out of all the available material in Japan, they decided to steal one of the cheaper made animes down there, particularly one made by practically a single guy in his garage (exaggerated for purpose of (poor) humor).

It's nice to see how strong Chinese nobility still stands over there.

5cm is not She and Her Cat; it was produced with way more manpower.

If you're going to copy something to save on costs, why not knock off something that was made on the cheap to begin with?

I did read that elsewhere, and at least there is still the possibility of a backlash with some modicum of free speech on the net. I feel for the animators over there as well.

I'm still hoping the sheer volume of people will overwhelm China's attempts at censoring the entire Internet and gradually force political change from below. That government is just too scary, rhetoric too precisely reminiscent of past evil totalitarian regimes. Since they essentially own the West (or U.S. at least) economically now, no one externally will actually push back at them politically.

I know. I just exaggerated, seeing as how the director was famous for such past work.

And, I figure, if you're gonna steal anyway, at least steal something expensive.

Well, it's nice to know that the Chinese government will still act to enforce Shinkai's copyright on the material. Rolling Eyes

I just read a Chinese net user commented: "they should plagiarize spoiler[School Days] next time; a beautiful and educational campus life anime it is."

It such a shame that China does this. They have tons of manpower to do their own anime but resort to stealing. Just goes to show that that China is just too lazy to cultivate their own unique anime and would rather steal successful ones. They rip nearly everything off already, and has one of the, if not the, highest illegal copy amounts in the world.

from China?

not surprising....

but nothing CoMix Wave Inc at Japan can do except point it out....can't sue Chinese government and i doubt CCTV is going to shut down ENTIRE series just because of complaint of ONE company from another country....

It's not surprising, just look to Japan, Korea and Vietnam's cultures and you can see how in the East Asian culture plagiarism is very common (Just look the pagodas in first place.)
