It was kind of slow, but I still enjoyed it. I thought the idea of cutting the future was actually kind of interesting. True, the basic concept was the same ability Shiki always uses, but killing something that doesn't actually exist is different enough for me. With anything Kara no Kyokai, the ride may be rough, but the payoff is always worth it. Even here, I can forgive a slow progression if the payoff is good. I also loved that scene at the end where the snow was falling and that one song played. I don't really know how to describe it but it was the exact same song that played at the beginning of movie 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7XcRomgZQs

It felt very much like Shizune's only real purpose was to help explain the precognition ability and I was like eh, ok I guess?
Yes, while I really like the movies this felt more of the same, but less interesting.
Unfortunately I happen to be one of those. |

So more overblown action-fantasy schlock?

Actually, there was only one "action" scene and it only lasted about 30 seconds or so. I would hardly call Kara no Kyokai anything close to an action series and I definitely wouldn't call it overblown. |

I agree with the reviewer that Garden of Sinners (as well as Fate/Zero et cetera by the same author) are overly verbose, however, there is no way it is possible to grade story as "C" as it is always clever and intricate, even if it can not affect main story line, as in this case.
Aside of the aforementioned issue with the amount of text and over talking, the quality of writing of this author is excellent. Strictly speaking, this should make A- or B+ for story. However, if we are so strict, then most of rating on story in reviews of other anime has to be lowered. |

Yes, though I did not understand (sleepy stupid me) that the last part of it was about couple's daughter, and that the mass murderer became children books author, and that ten years have passed, but I liked anyway. |

This whole film is one long exposition dump. Pretty much one brief action scene with nonstop monologues for the rest of the film.

Every movie in this series has two titles. I think it has to do with the pronunciation vs. the literal reading of the kanji. |

空の境界 未来福音 = Kara no Kyoukai/Future Gospel 1 volume first printed on 11th November 2011. Subtitle: the Garden of sinners/recalled out summer Like all of the novels in this series, this epilogue/side story has an english subtitle to the main one listed above. I picked up the novel when I found a bookstore selling a reprint some years back, so I got the benefit of being able to check the source with what was being animated. Suffice to say, I'm actually very pleased this got an animated adaptation since some aspects in the book were difficult to visualise. Seo Shizune is featured in the 6th and gets another mention in the 7th novel, but it's only here that fans find out exactly how she and Kokutou met and the prophecy she gave him regarding his relationship to Shiki. Kuramitsu and the other stories revolving around him are supposed to act as a foil to Seo and her abilities. |

After I watched the film, I tried to analyze deeply what the movie was getting at, and I ended up with this slightly embarrassing essay: https://tankyrase.wordpress.com/.
At the time I watched the movie, I was undergoing a crisis in my life similar to what the characters in the movie experienced. The movie motivated me to enjoy life as it is, and not be too stressed out about avoiding undesirable future. |

I enjoyed recalled-out summer (for what it is) and can see fans happily adding it to the rest of their collection. Though I do understand why some people might see the film as unnecessary.
Regardless of whether it's superfluous to the rest of The Garden of Sinners film series or not. This release gives me a slight bit of hope that AoA will re-release the other films on Blu-ray in the near future too. |

I really enjoyed this adaptation. I'm A-OK with epilogues and side stories, as long as they're from the original creator, well-done, and don't do stupid things like taking wrecking balls to well-conceived finales. At their best, they can feel a bit like checking in on old friends. The various "Outlanders" epilogues were great in that regard.
There's one more slim book in this series, but it's presently quite difficult to get hold of, since it was only given away to people who saw this film in the theaters. I'm sure if I paid what people are asking on-line, a mass-market paperback release would be announced the following day. |
