Huh, I'd never even heard of Cluster Edge until this review.
Maybe there's a reason for that; it doesn't sound like something I'd be too interested in. |

I don't understand why Cluster Edge even got licensed. I watched it in 2005 and couldn't even get past the second episode because it was so bad.

Cheap license? I'm honestly waiting for them to pick up Betrayal Knows My Name. With everything they pick up, why haven't they? It surely had enough fans for Funimation to ask if to pick it up...unless if they can't pick it up because Funi got it, then I can deal with that.[/spoiler] |

I believe they announced this at the same time they announced Intrigue in the Bakumatsu, so it may have been a package deal. If that is the case, I wish Banner of the Stars 3 was part of that deal instead. As it stands, this license only serves to give me hope. |

I, too, would dearly love to see BotS 3 picked up, but at this point I think the only chance of that ever happening is as part of a rerelease of the whole BotS set - and given that those were Bandai titles, I don't see that happening anytime soon. |

Hahah, this came up on AN on demand recently so I watched a couple episodes and it is hilariously bad.
I like the scene where a car drives off a cliff, bounces gently off of a boat, and lands safely on the opposite bank while the main character stands by smiling knowingly. Deep stuff. |

That's awful. Abysmal. Atrocious. So absurd it's actually amusing. |

Parts of the series really are that bad. It avoids a D or F rating because some later parts are better. |

For some reason I am reminded of this car chase, which (if you include the annotations) is unintentionally one of the most funniest things I have ever seen in Anime.
Edit: here's a better quality version but without the annotations/captions. I'd actually advise people to watch this one first, then the annotated video. |

I thought it might be an okay series if it did not have certain overtones that really dont contribute anything to the story, kind of like Ghost 07.

I whould have loved for Banner of the Stars 3 to get picked but I mean, I haven't even gotten all the way through anything further than Banner of the Stars xD Intrigue in the Bakumatsu sounds right up my alley, I think. I had only heard of it by it's Japanese title so I guess it didn't click for me mentally. I hadn't previously heard of Cluster Edge - might be interesting to me if it it's a cheaper whole series box. The designs look interesting enough on their own, or at least something I'd be interested in, but the series sounds like a mess xD I did finish Demon Lord Dante though so I guess my tolerance is pretty high - and that was pretty absurd in there. At least Cluster Edge could be fun. Maybe. |

CE is by no means as terrible as some here have said (an unrealistic car chase? In an anime?!?). That said, it's not very good. It works as a pass-the-time anime, there are plenty worse out there, but it's not worth specially seeking out.
I do think the review paragraph dealing with historical anachronism was unnecessary. It's obviously an a-historical setting, just like plenty of other animes. Better to just note that and move on. |

Just because other shows do it doesn't mean it's automatically not a problem. And besides, Theron is a qualified history teacher, he likes talking about historical and technological context. |

Theron's view is accurate; it is really bad show except for some parts later which make it avoiding an "F" mark -- but just barely.
