Hm. I was considering buying this series actually, so the review came just in time. I was wanting to buy another shojo series currently being released besides Mixed Vegetables, but after hearing the bad things about The Magic Touch I will probably just hold off from new shojo for now.

After Mohawk52's post I wanted to rampage in here raving about the injustices of this review... but I didn't have the guts to pull it off :D I did really enjoy this series myself, but the points Casey raised here are entirely valid. It is a very silly premise and does have its flaws (clichés like the evil twin sister, weird high school club, perfectlyperfect mysterious love interest...).

But I had fun reading it anyway! I always appreciate series like this one that get the characters in a relationship in the beginning, so that the plot (such that it is) can do more than just meander toward the inevitable love confession scene. I also found myself laughing at the jokes, especially in the first volume. I guess silly-weirdness is my sort of humour... I think it's fair to say that as a beginner-artist's work, this may be more of a work in progress than a great series from the start. Ultimately, yes, it is a very silly shoujo series that doesn't do wildly new things for the romantic-comedy genre, but even a series like that can be enjoyed by someone :D Still, people who don't care for those kinds of series may do just as well to avoid it.

Note for those who want to "charge over the hill"--Please do not feed the trolls, such as the one depicted above. The last thing we need is another review-based flamewar.

That's strange. Lys doesn't seem like a troll to me.

Er, yeah. Sorry, I didn't mean to say anything incendiary or flame-ful or provocative. The first line of my post was written jokingly ^^; I absolutely think Casey has worthwhile points in her review. I just wanted to offer a bit of my own opinion on the series, since I thought the series could be enjoyed by readers like me who do enjoy lighthearted shoujo manga with silly premises.

I rather liked the first 2 books.

Granted the is premise of a Massage Club is rather strange. Then again how many HS Host Clubs or Beauty Shop Clubs do you see around?

Once you get past the initial, uh Massage Club idea, the characters are rather sweet. The Heroine is not too flaky or too annoying (with a sister like hers' it's surprising she's not worse) . The Boyfriend is too arrogant or too much of an ass. And he does care for her.

The main problem I have with them is that they don't make a huge impression. (Notice I didn't even remember their names). The sub-characters sometimes have more substance. Like the older brother and his girlfriend. (But I still can't remember their names)

Still, I'd recommend the books for someone looking for a soft romance. Maybe for a manga club to share.

Y'know, I've seen people who are really into massage-they massage their friends and family members and get massages themselves from amatuers and professionals.

So the idea of teens engaging in and learning massage as a completely asexual pasttime doesn't seem ludicrous to me at all (though a school club is a bit much).

Personally, massage gives me the willies. Smile

Another mediocre Shojo romance in Viz's Shojo Beat line? *Sigh* wake me Yoshinaga's Ooku finally comes out!
