Dang, for a second I thought this was an American release. A shame, I've heard ZZ was goofy but still quite entertaining in its own right. I would gladly drop money on that.

Wow, took them long enough. I surprised that they were finally going to release it.

I was hoping too that it would get released in the US, along with Victory Gundam which I want to see a US release as well. Basically with ZZ Once Tomino takes over the show it starts to get better and gets more serious. I think he takes over around episode 19 or so.

Admittedly I wish to steer clear of Zeta, thus the unavailability of its sequel is nothing to disappoint me currently. We'll just have to wait and see whether Bandai follows suit in R1.

I guess they needed to add an extra to get people to buy ZZ. I'd buy it if it were at a reduced price, but certainly isn't worth the same price Zeta is.
Show suffered from a serious identity crisis.

Hopefully this release might increase the likelihood that Bandai will release this series stateside. Regardless of the criticism of ZZ, it's still one of my all-time favorite shows.

I can't believe they're even bothered to re-master ZZ, the show is best forgotten, there's tons of better works out there that Sunrise could be remastering, like Five Star Stories. And this wouldn't get dubbed in R1 these days, if released at all. And don't ever count on Victory Gundam or Gundam X, and Turn A Gundam is a crapshoot as well.
I'm just hoping something like Stargazer would get licensed, since BEUSA licensed every other piece of shit out the CE time-line except the only good thing. Are all of those special edition recap movies really necessary?

Zeta is arguably the Empire Strikes back of UC Gundam. ZZ is like ROTJ.

I agree. The show just wasn't as great or lived up to Zeta in anyway. Still for the sake of continuity for the UC timeline, I certainly hope Bandai gets to releasing this and Victory Gundam.

Personally, I want them to fix Zeta first. Re-recording Zeta and A New Translation with the Ocean Group actors is way more important than releasing ZZ. ZZ is really treated as not up to snuff with Zeta and I have all 5 of the Zeta (Blue Water Studios) and their voice actors are terrible. It makes the Ocean guys sound professional.
I do hope they do get around to ZZ, but after we get the 3 part A new translation done with Ocean studio voices that North American fans are used to.
If anything, there are other Gundam ones that need a North American release and are better than ZZ. Push off ZZ to 2012 as we get other series done or redone.

I've watched my Zeta set like 3-4 times and I honestly don't see a need to re do it.

Regardless of my ambivalent feelings towards the program, I'm hoping that if they ever release ZZ over here, they do a better job than with the Zeta release.
First, they announced that Zeta would only be released in an expensive limited edition boxset. Then they kept delaying the release. They released it without telling anyone that they didn't have rights to the opening and ending credit songs. They used the inferior Blue Water branch of Ocean instead of leaving up to the first-tier Ocean crew that did the dub for the original series and Char's Counterattack, and thus continuity is broken. There were "dubtitles". The extras included pencil sharpners, which after all these years, I still have no idea what to do with, because I'm not ten years old, and I don't use pencils. I certainly wouldn't be caught dead using one of those in public.
Then, later on, they released double-disc sets of the series with fixed subtitles. Bandai refused to replace my discs with the corrected ones, even though they already lied about not doing individual releases. (I purchased a set once, because I had to replaced a scratched disc. The subtitles are much better.) Later on, they even released boxsets of the first and second half of the series, with (I presume) corrected discs.
Now if I want to watch Zeta Gundam, my favorite mecha series of all time, with good subtitles, I have to buy the new boxsets. Otherwise, I have to put up with dubtitles or the awful dub itself.
Why do people even give Blue Water work? Have they ever done anything worthwhile? They're awful. Even some of the mediocre programs they usually dub don't deserve that shabby treatment.
Actually, I take it back. On the off chance that Bandai Entertainment ever licenses the program, I do hope ZZ recieves the same treatment as Z. Because if a show like ZZ recieves better treatment than Z did, I'm going to seizure.
I'm surprised I even continue purchasing Bandai DVDs.

First saw Zeta subtitled on Animax Asia. Original OP/EDs, since Sunrise licensed Asia-wide rights to the Neil Sedaka music used in the theme songs. I've also seen bootleg HK DVD sets. Pretty sure they would have the original songs, too, but I don't want to support piracy.
Maybe I'll just collect the LD boxes and the vinyl releases of the music, for the complete retro-eighties future feel.

penguintruth has succinctly outlined the reasons I currently abstain from watching Zeta. Though not the most expensive of purchases, the product I'd have to buy if I wished to watch it legally simply wouldn't live up to my expectations.

I was upset that some of the voices were changed, but I didn't think the dub was that horrible for Zeta. It's not the best, but not the worst either.
