Watched this film yesterday and holy crap is it absolutely goregeous! The Blu Ray has a featurette that goes behind the scenes on the production and you can see all the effort that went into creating the most high end CG ever. All that work definitely paid off.
The story was pretty good too. Leon is his old badass self, getting mixed up in war in an east European country where there are plenty of BOWs to kill. La Plaga makes for a better movie than the T-Virus does but the sheer amount of Lickers was pretty cool. I even started rooting for them since they were the 'good guys' this time.
The animation is no slouch when it comes to the action scenes. The cat fight between Ada and Svetlana was absolutely fantastic, as was the final fight against the Tyrants.
While I like Degeneration more since it brings Claire and Leon back together (I grew up with Resident Evil 2), Damnation is definitely the more impressive of the two.

I saw this the other day, and it definitely has hands down the best CG I've seen in a movie. Very nicely designed characters and sets.
Does this set up 6 or something or act as a prequel to anything? Because one thing seemed a bit lost on me, mainly when you see the female president's back all scarred; I thought it was foreshadowing she was actually a mutant/plaga experiment, but nothing came out of it. I guess it was just battle wounds since she was a drill instructor or something? Speaking of which, Ada was pretty nice in that business skirt I have to admit.
Leon was pretty cool, and it was nice to see the Lickers fight scenes.

Yeah, I also figured Svetlana's scarring is to show she's been through some bad situations.
But I assume it does set up RE6, mainly who Ada talks to at the end like Degeneration did for 5.

It's either to set up 6 or to wash out the taste from the live action film.

Both actually lol. It actually is a prequel of sorts to Resident Evil 6. The first animated movie was gorgeous itself, though it wasn't directly related to any of the games or a prequel to 5 really. Maybe a bit it was in the sense it introduce us to Tricell which was related to Res Evil 5. Don't wanna give away spoilers for those who don't know. From what i've heard though this movie is more a of a pre1uel to 6 then Degeneration was to 5. What gets me is how in the past few games, and now animated movies, they've tied in former characters in ways that make sense. Unlike the movies. I am looking very forward to getting my copy of this movie and also my copy of RE6 soon.
