A religion, also known as "Happy Science", that has celebrity support? Maybe I'm paranoid, but this seems disturbingly similar to another dangerous organization...

Kindaichi is one of my favorite manga ever. I sure hope Sato hasn't gone over to Tom Cruise-style crazy religious celebrity status...

Its founder Ryuho Okawa is no stranger to anime and manga. ANN had covered his related news as early as 2000. |

So all those anime that involve mysterious religious organizations dabbling in politics are somewhat accurate.
Maybe it's just my Western thinking, but religion playing a direct role in politics makes me a little uncomfortable. |

Oh frak. The more I learn about Happy Science, the more it makes my skin crawl. For starters, here's their official website: http://www.kofuku-no-kagaku.or.jp/en/index.html
I've had more than little experience with cult behavior, and this one definitely rubs me wrong. Maybe it's inevitable, this recent trend of Japanese cults gaining more and more political influence. If so, I can only hope that they end up getting in each other's way and thus minimize their overall influence. |

And so begins the takeover from a society which after reading some replies here, make it sound like Scientology to me. Just wonderful.
